arw01 Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Always had trouble with devices at the end of the leg that runs the front door lamp.I've replaced a few devices in there over the years and currently this end of leg has in it: Dual Band Lamp-Outlet-Linc Dual band switch linc dual band 8 button keypadThere is on occasion another appliance link dual band on the outlet as well.Currently I have 2 filters up stream in a bedroom blocking the signal suckers. And an ELK X10 reception strength meter plugged into this end of line outlet linc.The Elk reports full strength 5v when the PLM querries or turns it on or off.Just did a query off the admin console and noticed that some part of it reparts with the wrong initial pair or digits for its insteon id. mwester Posted September 5, 2017 Posted September 5, 2017 Possibilities: - Failing device is sending incorrect messages - Failing PLM is incorrectly sending messages to ISY - Noise on the power-line is causing the message to be corrupted The second in the list is pretty easy to figure out: If the PLM is about 2 years old, or older, throw it out and get a new one. If it's 18 months or less, then examine the list to see which devices are affected. If the incorrect addresses pop up randomly over all devices, then the PLM is suspect. Noise is tough to sort out. You'll need to find whatever it is that troubles that circuit. Remove everything (I mean everything - the smallest phone charger, every LED bulb regardless of working status or not, etc). Test repeatedly until the problem goes away. Note that signal strength is not sufficient -- heck I was at a wedding reception a week or two ago, and I've got quite a loud voice but even I couldn't make myself understood to my partner at the table. Shouting is not sufficient when the noise is loud enough! Filterlincs, better/different devices/appliances, whatever. If that doesn't work, then pull the device, put it on a test bench and see what it does. It'll probably work - they all do for me. Put a new device in, see if it behaves better. If so, toss the old one, and chalk it up to the aging Insteon protocol combined with aging Insteon devices, and contemplate Z-Wave in your future.
