Missing Insteon Address label

Hi All,

Hopefully this one is a simple one and I am just overlooking something. I have 3 Insteon 2634-222 outdoor on/off modules that I have re-purposed from outside. While outside, they lost their address labels to the weather. Also, I deleted them from my device list in the ISY, so I have no history to look at.

How can I determine what their addresses are from the ISY console or other methods?

If this were a missing IP address, I would do an IP ping scan. Any similar tool with the admin console?

Hello Leon,

Easiest thing to do is to manually link them to something. Then you can log into the Admin Console to see that extra Insteon address that wasn't present before. Obviously you need to capture the existing hardware as to what links are present so you know what is the new one. You can also place the system into linking mode and then watch the level 3 logs to show the broadcast address pending its write.

NOTE: Pressing the two whirling arrows will let you link without the known address.

You may want to try. The start linking method of adding a module.

You pick Start Linking.

Then you have to push the set button on the module until it links to the Administrative Console.

Then stop the linking function and it should be added.

You could do more then one but I think one at a time as each is added with its six digit Insteon ID as its name.

I have also done the add a new module to the Administrative Console. Manually link the device with the missing ID. Then compare the modules link database what the ISY994i thinks is in the module.

I always used the drop down list. The whirling arrows pointed out is the graphical representative to start linking.

Cool, thanks Teken and Brian.  The link icon did the trick and displayed the insteon address and type waiting to be linked. Now to look for my permanent marker....

Hello Leon,

I would encourage you to use a high quality label maker instead. Once done take a Insteon PDF of the full product manual and edit the page to include the hardware production date, revision, and ISY firmware. You can also append the location and other attributes you feel are important. Save the newly (edited PDF) to a USB drive, NAS, cloud drive of your choice.

You can go the extra mile and append the same information in the notes section in the ISY Series Controller. Lastly, taking a photo and saving the information to the above is the last mile for sure.

Rock On . . .

Not as sophisticated as Teken but I also have Word documents with all the pertinent data.

I have seen a better label on the newer Insteon Modules.

Look line a plastic label with a laser type printing on it.

The older ones where paper. The glue on the back dried out and I had them fall off in use inside the home. Many times sucked up in a vacuum cleaner when cleaning up.
