Need help setting up a basic scenario, one switch at the top of the steps, one at the bottom.

 

The switches are installed and have been for years.  They used to work properly, when I was using the Insteon Hub, but I haven't figured out how to set them up in ISY.  I'm using two Insteon 2477S switches. 

 

I watched an 18 minute How-to video but the only thing I got from it was to set both switches as Controller.  Now the upstairs switch seems to work, but I have to double click the bottom switch to turn the lights off, and scenes that are supposed to shut off the stair lighting do not (however the LED indicator on the bottom switch does indicate the lights are off when controlled by a scene, even though the lights are clearly still on).

Couple of questions

• Does only one switch physically control the load to the lights, eg you're sure everything is wired properly?
• Did you remove the links from the Hub prior to configuring them with the ISY?
• If you didn't remove the scenes before switching to the ISY:
  • Delete the ISY scene if you created one
  • Factory reset both switches (you do not need to remove or reinstall them to the ISY)
  • Create a scene
  • Add both switches as controllers

Select each device in the scene and check the On-Level. The ramp rate should be grayed out.

Okay, I got it.  Somewhere I read that the switches should be set opposite of each other (one to on, one to off).  Now that they're both set to On, they work as they should.  Thanks for your help.

There are cases where you might want one switch turned "off" when you turn a scene "on".  An example is in TV room, you may want the overhead recessed lights dimmed down when accent lighting is dimmed up.
