Jason Miller Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Hello, I just added the Z-wave module to my ISY994i. I'm an Insteon system, for the most part, but with a few items, I'm adding needed z-wave compatibility. I have no experience with Z-Wave devices, so excuse dumb questions: 1. I added the module inside the ISY device and added the software module, seems to be working 2. Must I add any "z-wave repeaters" or something to broadcast the signal? I want to add: https://www.amazon.com/Aeotec-Multisensor-temperature-humidity-vibration/dp/B0151Z8ZQY/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 Will it work out of the box or do I need to do something as I mention in #2
asbril Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Once the Zwave module has been properly added to your ISY there is no need to add a repeater, other than in special circumstances. You should add your first Zwave device relatively close to the ISY, by selecting add/include from the Zwave button in your Administrative Console. Zwave works with a mesh structure and most (if not all) non-battery powered Zwave devices repeat the signal of other Zwave devices. Therefore in principle the more Zwave devices you have the better your connection will be.
stusviews Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Sometimes, a Z-wave device needs to Excluded before it can be Included.
lilyoyo1 Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Needing a repeater will depend on how close you are to your ISY and environment. Personally, I would get a repeater to be on the safe side rather assume one will not be needed.
Jason Miller Posted February 17, 2018 Author Posted February 17, 2018 Found the device with no issues. Easy enough. Thanks for the input.
Jason Miller Posted February 25, 2018 Author Posted February 25, 2018 All hooked up .. blogged about it at: https://jamz.net/schlage-connect-smart-lock-universal-devices-alexa/ Schlage connect smart lock, alexa unlocking and locking, on my ISY device. So far, so good.
