Battery Devices & Replacing a PLM

Disable simply tells the system to ignore the device and not declare any faults. Unlinking removes all related links / scenes from all devices in the Insteon network. What exactly is the problem you're trying to solve?

Nothing at this time. I am preplanningreplacing a failing PLM at a vacation home. I won't be on scene for 2 months. It is precisely why I remain upset with the atrocious quality of this vital piece of equipment.

Do you have the Pro version? If so, then simply disable automatic writes to battery powered devices.

Unfortunately, no, not at the vacation home. I just saw, however, that the Pro module is $30. I think I will purchase it. Some of my 10 battery devices are located about 90 feet from the house and one is in a detached cellar. I have arthritic knees. So, I am going to purchase the module if, for no other reason than this, it will be worth it. Are there any pitfalls associated with download and installation of the module that you are aware of? I will be doing everything remotely and will not be at the site for 2 months. Should I perhaps wait until I am there?

There shouldn't be any issues when you upgrade (famous last words). When the ISY resets you will have to wait some minutes to log in again as it goes through failed queries.

That said, when the ISY can't read/write to a device it will give up after a few attempts. It will try again when the status of the device changes or you perform a query, but it won't go on forever.

I enable programs like this when I make changes to motion sensors. I'm not sure if this command is only available with Pro.

This works because Motion Sensors stay active for a few seconds when they send commands to listen for responses.

Write Garage Sensor - [ID 0017][Parent 0019][Not Enabled]

If
Control 'Garage / Garage-Sensor' is switched Off

Then
Set 'Garage / Garage-Sensor' Write Device Updates

Else
   - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

You can also use Dusk/Dawn as the parameter.

Write Kitchen Sensor Copy - [ID 002F][Parent 0019]

If
        Control 'Kitchen / Kitchen-Sensor / Kitchen-Dusk/Dawn' is switched Off

Then
Set 'Kitchen / Kitchen-Sensor' Write Device Updates

Else
   - No Actions - (To add one, press 'Action')

It's always best to be on-site when making changes to the ISY.
