hspindel Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 I've been using an ISY994 accessed remotely from an iPhone for years without problems. After a recent iOS upgrade (not sure which one), I can no longer connect to the ISY. It is a certificate problem, and none of the browsers I tried (Safari, Chrome, Firefox) allow me say "go ahead and connect even though it's not secure". I can connect to the ISY from a desktop computer (using Firefox with a certificate exception) so the ISY is still working. I have tried generating a new certificate on the ISY. For some reason, the "Export Certificate" button is always grayed out. I suspect that if I could export a certificate that I could make this work. I'm trying to use a self-signed certificate (which is what I've used for years). I did try generating a new certificate with 2048 key strength as I read somewhere that iOS requires that now. Has anybody found a way to access the ISY994 from the latest version of iOS? it's been driving me crazy for hours now. Thanks!

I realize that this may not exactly be the solution that you are looking for, but I use Mobilinc on my Iphone and have no issues.
Michel Kohanim Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Hi hspindel, In addition to what @asbril suggested, there are two other alternatives: 1. Get a dynamic DNS host and buy a regular certificate for that host (from Godaddy or RapidSSL). The requirement is that you should be able to receive emails for that host 2. Use ISY Portal or MobiLinc Connect service which act as proxies With kind regards, Michel
hspindel Posted February 23, 2018 Author Posted February 23, 2018 Thanks for the ideas, but they aren't a solution I prefer. Why is the "export" button grayed out on the ISY certificate generation page? If I could export a certificate, I could import it on my phone and fix the problem the way I want to.
BigMoose1 Posted February 23, 2018 Posted February 23, 2018 Hispinel i had the same problem using my IPhone. When you get the screen which says something to the effect that the site is not safe, click on more detail. There will be an option to go to the site with you knowing the risk. This has always worked for me. Whenever I have an IP address change I have to log on this way

The latest version of iOS/Safari no longer gives you an option to go the site knowing the risk. Apparently, this is an iOS level change since neither Firefox nor Chrome give you the option either.
BigMoose1 Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 Hspindel thank you for the heads up. I am not going to update to 11.2.6. I have an update waiting.
BigMoose1 Posted February 25, 2018 Posted February 25, 2018 Asbril are you using Orchestrated Mobilinc I see it in the App Store for $69.99. Is this an annual cost and do I need a dynamic DNS host to support this application. I see it has in app purchases I am looking for something that will allow me to control devices and disable programs Is it easy to set up. I am not a techie so I want to be sure I can handle it. Appreciare any info you can provide. Thank you
hspindel Posted February 27, 2018 Author Posted February 27, 2018 Update: By telling FIrefox to clear all of its history and local data, I was able to get Firefox to ask me if it was okay to access my site even though it doesn't like the certificate. By telling Firefox to go ahead, I am now able to access the site. Unfortunately Firefox doesn't remember the exception so I have to re-inform it everytime. At least I can do what I want to do. Still no simple solution for Safari. Posted for anybody else who may find this valuable.
Michel Kohanim Posted February 27, 2018 Posted February 27, 2018 hspindel, Not really sure I understand. The main point is NOT to use the browser and use the icon on your desktop instead. Did you ever get that work? With kind regards, Michel

Appreciare any info you can provide. Thank you I also use Orchestrated Mobilinc (OM). The price is a one-off purchase, however I also use their Mobilinc Connect feature, which does have an annual renewal fee of $29.95 at the time of this post. With the Mobilinc Connect addon, you do not have to have a dynamic DNS host, it synchs up via a server/service which Mobilinc maintains. (UDI's Portal provides the same functionality if I've correctly understood what the UDI Portal does.) And yes, you can control devices with OM, as well as enable or disable programs, etc. I have the Elk interface addon module as well. It all works very well for me.

The single advantage I can see to mobilinc connect vs UDI"s portal is that choosing mobilinc connect allows you to use mobilinc native notifications, whereas with UDI's portal you need to involve yet another provider/app to receive API based notifications. Personally I'm ok with that. Personally I'm not OK with one of Mobilinc business practices, i.e. "let's wait and see what happens when IOS 11 is released." Wes's attitude was that it Apple's fault mobilinc broke when IOS 11 was released and Apple needed to fix it. In the end, the issue with mobililinc and IOS 11 did get fixed by Wes after a week. Mobilinc/Wes knew BEFORE release day it was GOING to break, but didn't care to even warn us. In conclusion, I can't rely on mobilinc and have tried to move away it (but admittedly I am still using at this point). eKeypad is next on my list... I just haven't had time....

Is there an iOS app of which I'm unaware? Yes, if I'm on a desktop then the ISY application works just fine.

Quote Is there an iOS app of which I'm unaware? My reply was to address the quote above in red. That being Mobilinc is the iOS smart application which allows a person to connect to the ISY Series Controller and manage their Insteon network. Whether it be devices, programs, network resources etc. If you subscribe to Mobilinc Connect it also provides push notification . . . The Android version would be the smart application called Agave. There area also a handful of freeware / paidware to connect to the ISY Series Controller which requires port forwarding on the App Store.
hspindel Posted March 1, 2018 Author Posted March 1, 2018 Not interested in Mobilinc or any other paid app.
