pianko Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 I just plugged in my isy 99i and Smarthome PLM. I cant seem to set up my system because I keep getting this error message whenever I try to change settings in the admin section. Socket Open Failed java.net.SocketTimeoutException I can't resolve this on either a Mac or PC. I tried to update the firmware on the isy to 2.7.0, but the isy refuses the upgrade. Anyone know how a newbie should begin troubleshooting this problem??
Michel Kohanim Posted April 5, 2009 Posted April 5, 2009 Hello pianko, I do apologize for the inconvenience. This problem is caused in four cases: 1. Defective PLM ... please check the RX light on your ISY and make sure it is not lit solidly 2. If your ISY is connected through a switch, please either change the cable or try connecting it to the router directly 3. I would also suggest firewall software but you have this problem both on your PC and MAC 4. Defective unit If you would like, you can send us a support request (http://www.universal-devices.com/contact.htm) and we'll setup a support call to remotely diagnose the problems. pianko Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Hi Michael, Thanks for the response. I looked over your questions: 1. The RX light is not solid 2. The ISY is plugged into my router, not the switch 3. I agree about the firewall software, but since it's on both MAC and PC... It seems like you think this might be defective. What's the best solution? Should I return both the PLM and ISY to Smart Home?
Michel Kohanim Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 Hello pianko, If you don't mind and have time, it would be best if we could schedule a call for today (Monday) after 2:00 PM PDT and we might be able to figure out what's going on. Also, if you have pure network's network magic, that would surely cause the same exact symptoms. Our phone number is 818-631-0333. With kind regards, Michel Hi Michael, Thanks for the response. taskman Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Hi, I was getting this and had to restore the PLM. Hope you have been creating backups which is always good in case needed.
thedishking Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Hello, I am experiencing the same issue. I initially noticed this as ISY programs were not always executing. I logged into ISY and noticed the time was 1 hour off. I attributed this a Java issue, until now. I have cleared Java cache, and still have some weird issues. Events would not always execute, and after setting the time, it would be wrong again the next day. Now, several days into this, I am getting this "Socket Open Failed java.net.SocketTimeoutException" error, and I am also presented to comply with the EULA. I have tried to restore my PLM, and I have also looked at the ISY. Only the power light is on, with occasional TX and RX flash. Question: Would a defective PLM cause any of these issues? For as unstable as Java seems to be, I hope not. Seems to be an uphill battle, as I have had to replace the PLM about once per year. If it is a bad PLM, I will install a new one and begin the restoration process. Thank you for any help on this one.
Michel Kohanim Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Hello thedishking, Would you be kind enough to submit a ticket? With kind regards, Michel
