ISY is not online

Featured Replies

All has been working well for months now until 0746 this morning.  ISY shows in the portal as off line and of any communication with Agave & Alexa is down as well.

I have performed a factory reset and attempted to connect thru the portal to the factory reset device but the same problem, "ISY is not online"

I deleted the ISY from the portal and re-added it but the same problem exists.  I made no changes to the system overnight and the offline time is what the portal is reporting.

Firmware 4.6.2

I saw a thread from a few months ago where a server problem was at fault for a similar issue but I have not seen any reports of any such problem today.

Any thoughts on what to try next?

No changes to your internet or router?

If you log into the Admin Console and go to the system tab you'll see Clock at the top. There is a Synchronize Now button for syncing your ISY with the its NTP server. If you press the button and get an error, that means your ISY can't see the internet. Give that a try and we can go from there based on the result.

You may have the problem figured out.  I do get a "NTP server DNS error"  and "TCP client DNS error" when attempting to do a time sync.

Not sure why because I have not made any router changes either but I will pursue that until I can get the time sync to work and hopefully that will clear everything up.

Thanks Very Much!

No problem... Didn't see initially that you are a new user, welcome to the UDI Forums!

Let us know if it gets resolved or if we can help more.  DNS is a pretty specific error... is your ISY DNS configured the way you meant?

Well it was on automatic DHCP but since that's not working I'm experimenting with manual DNS entries copied from my router.  Seems very strange that this just occurred out of nowhere.  Every other device in the house is working fine so I doubt my internet provider made any changes.

I was able to operate my insteon devices thru the admin console but I think that uses the PLM and not the house network, is that correct?  I am able to ping the IP address of the ISY from other PCs on the network so I think its only a problem getting out thru the router.  I may try restoring my router to a previous configuration next just to see if that helps.

Well go figure,  Resetting the router to a previous configuration solved the problem.  Maybe the cable company pushed an update to my router overnight that didn't go right.

Things that make you go Hmm...

Thanks again for your assistance!

Correct. Insteon is a packet based, digital network, but its is not internet (based on the devices you buy from SmartLabs).. there's no bridging/routing translation from the ISY / PLM from internet to the Insteon network.

So that diagnosis makes sense... the ISY can talk through the PLM to generate insteon network messages that work.. but the ISY can not talk to the internet to connect to the hub for the things that the hub supports.
