device doesn't update local control

A dimmer switch of mine responds to all commands but when it is controlled locally its status does not update on ISY. If a query is sent the correct status updates. I tried restoring the device but no luck. Then  I tried just swapping out the switch and using ISY replace function but same results with the second one. The rest of system is perfect. Any thoughts? Thanks much.

Is it an Insteon or Z-Wave switch?  Only relatively recent Z-Wave devices (Z-Wave Plus) will report instantaneous status based on local control, but Insteon devices should all report their status immediately.

Since the location didn't change, but the switches did, and problem remained, my guess is that there is line noise or some other problem near the switch location preventing its powerline signal from reaching the PLM. Rf may be blocked from a metal mounting box, wires etc. The problem might be the load itself.

  • What is load being controlled?
  • What happens if you un-wire the load (red wire) and repeat the test?
  • What happens if you un-mount the switch and let it hang from the fixture and repeat the test?
