KPL not shutting off

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

We just had a power failure and when everything came back up one KPL8 didn't come back on.

I air gapped it and the load came on. However now it seems it won't do anything. The light (load) is on and I can't seem to shut it off.

Any thoughts?

I'm assuming I'm buying another KPL but in the meantime I'd like to get some functionality.

I'd like to be able to at least shut off the light.

Hi smokegrub

I've pulled the tab out for ten seconds and pushed it in for ten seconds.

When I let go it just goes to on and the KPL LED aren't lit.

ps. just tried again and still the same

Did you hold the set button in until it started beeping and then keep holding the set button until it stopped beeping? Before releasing the set button.

Its version 1.65 so I'm not sure it beeps.

So I pull the tab, leave it for 10 seconds and then push it all the way in for a count of twenty.

IS there something else I should try?

Does the On and Off button set. Control the locally connected load ? If it is factory reset with no links in it. You should be able to  use the On and Off buttons to control the load. If not I would suspect the  KPL has a failed part in it.

It was basically a stone wired to my wall.

When I would reset it the load would come on 100% but not light any LED on the keypad.

I couldn’t control anything so I took the keypad off to reveal more of the set tab. To shut it off I pulled the tab.

Amazon one day delivery has one on the way right now.

Thanks everyone for your input.

AAARRRRGGGHHHHH

So I go to the KPL this morning and when I pushed the tab in it works again.

For some reason it needed to be air gapped all night to clear itself???

I don't mind as now I have a spare that I'll put in an outbuilding or something.

As I said, this device is maybe the oldest Instead device in the house and it gets jiggy (sorry for being so technical)

Maybe I'll buy a desktop enclosure and just use it wherever.

Any thoughts?

They never repair themselves -- in my experience, once an Insteon device starts to go wonky like that, it should just be tossed.  Murphy's law dictates that it WILL fail again, and that it will fail when most inconvenient.  Don't waste your time with a desktop enclosure, just toss it.
