RonnieB Posted November 17, 2018 Posted November 17, 2018 I have a CT101 Z-Wave Thermostat and it will not join the system. I am using the latest 5 series software. The Thermostat will join on an alternate system using the older 4.73 series software. Using Mac OSX Computer. I am a rookie. And advice or direction? Thanks

Thanks Be sure to exclude the device at least twice before trying to include it. See if that helps.
RonnieB Posted November 19, 2018 Author Posted November 19, 2018 Thank you. I will try when I get to the house. Has been driving me nuts. My immediate thought is that it has something to do with the 5 series update. Will work on older series but not on new version. I will check it out. Thanks again.
BamBamF16 Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 I'm sure you thought of this but mine was extremely sensitive to distance from isy. I had to move my isy within 10 feet even with an aotec siren within feet of the thermostat.
mwester Posted November 19, 2018 Posted November 19, 2018 Yeah, the new dongle, despite the apparent FCC testing that UDI has noted in another thread, has far less range than the original, and far less range than most wall-wart type z-wave devices. Five to 10 feet, without intervening walls, is the range I've been getting. Fortunately, the ISY is in the basement ceiling, with a large chest freezer directly beneath -- which makes a nice "tabletop" to lay out my Insteon/Z-Wave test wiring thingy and let me add the z-wave device before I install same.

Probably 30 feet distance with some walls between. Hmmm. Is there a "best" thermostat you know of that will work? Seems impractical to necessitate location being so close to isy. Thanks for the help. Kind-of makes clear what may be happening.

I just added three z-wave switches on the 2nd floor; my ISY is in the basement -- the trick is to move the ISY up to the device to be enrolled, the exclude the device, followed by including it. Let the ISY add all the nodes (may take a few minutes, and will be helped if you operate the device's functions so that the ISY sees all the nodes it needs/creates). Then take the ISY back to its home, and run a "Heal" operation so that the routes get updated to include your new device(s).

BamBamF16 Posted November 20, 2018 Posted November 20, 2018 Sorry. That was just to enroll. Then move isy back and run network heal and sync nodes. All is good back in their home bases. Sorry for confusion. Jeff

Moved thermostat back downstairs and connected it to HVAC system and all good. Working fine. Thanks again for all the responses and help Really do appreciate it.
