Radio Thermostat CT32 multiple nodes?

My first foray into 5.0, this is a new location, all Z-wave.

 

Adding a Radio Thermostat CT32 with the Z-Wave module, currently battery powered.    After including  to a ISY-994 running 5.0.14, I see multiple entries.   Even stranger, the different variations on the same one physical thermostat don't report the same temperature.

e.g.

• ZW003_1 Thermostat reports 56.5F, and 35% humidity
• ZW003_001_1 Thermostat reports 63.0F and 31% humidity
• ZW003_001_194 Lifeline reports nothing
• ZW003_002_1 MultiLevel Sensor reports 63.0F
• ZW003_194 Lifeline reports nothing

Looking through various online documentation and discussions on the Z-Wave USNAP module, I think I found a clue to the extra nodes from Radio Thermostat or 2GIG devices .

Appears Z-Wave controllers/modules in some cases automatically add nodes for association group one, the "lifeline" group?   Anybody have a link to a good explanation of the "Root Device Lifeline"?
