Bob Chase Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 I had to relocate the 994 and the PLM today. When the sunset programs failed to run, troubleshooting showed that I could connect to the 994 via web interface or the java interface but the 994 could not connect any of the Insteon devices. I can see my programs, my devices, and my scenes in the 994 but I can't control anything. I did a reboot on the 994 and factory reset on the 2413S. Is there a way to troubleshoot this further without just buying a new 2413S to see if that fixes things?
paulbates Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 Since the new behavior is coincident with the move, I would start by guessing the ISY and PLM were moved to a location where the PLM can't see the rest of the devices on the network. Where did you move it? Is the new PLM outlet far away from the electrical panel Are there electronics, motors, transformers, furnace, etc plugged in nearby to the new PLM ? As a diagnostic, try temporarily moving it back and seeing if things work again Paul
Techman Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 In addition to what Paul suggested you'll first need to do a RESTORE PLM as the factory reset wiped out its link tables. Are you getting any error messages, or blinking lights on the front of the ISY? Is your PLM plugged into the correct port on the back of the ISY? How many dual band devices do you have in your system?
Brian H Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 When you power the system up. Also remember to power up the PLM and let it initialize before powering up the ISY99i. So it can find the PLM and not go into safe mode.

Thanks Techman - Yes it is plugged in correctly and there are about 30 dual-band devices plus 2 phase jumpers, 4 motion sensors, two mini remotes, 3 filter links, and the PLM in the house. Paul - Prior to turning to the forum, I had tried it back in the home office at the rear of the house and up in the living room at the front where I have had the internet modem located before. The new modem is now in the center of the house for better 5 gig Wifi distribution. I've moved the 994/PLM around before and also did it when we lived in Houston in a house twice this size with no issues other than a device at the end of a long power run not working constantly, precipitating a phase jumper relocation. (the old house-linc program had a nice trouble shooting page for that.) I've got a new PLM on order and I'll tag you back on the results. Happy Trails, Bob

Are you using the "ISY Launcher" to access your admin console? Can you post a copy of one of your programs that won't run. Right click on the program, click on copy to clipboard, then paste it in your post.

I run the java link in the wiki after I update Java and then run the desktop shortcut afterwords. It launches a "finder' that links to the Admin Console. All of my programs ran before and now none do - even if I click on 'run then' right-click option. I've also noticed that while my scenes will run when I click on a device's button and a linked device will control another device, I don't see any events happen in the Event Viewer. If I turn a device on/off/dim/etc using the Admin Console then I see the data in the event viewer. Sunset.txt
Sub-Routine Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 You should have many more links in your PLM table. All those links are controller links and you should have a responder link (A2) for every switch/button/MS you have. Try another Restore PLM.

Sub-Routine Posted December 30, 2018 Posted December 30, 2018 Location would not have anything to do with a Restore PLM. All I can guess is some massive interference. Wrapping the PLM with tin-foil could eliminate the RF. Perhaps plugging it into a filter, like a UPS would reduce power line noise. The try a Restore PLM. Since you can see Info/Status I would guess the Cat5 is good. You should have double the links for each switch, one for each mini-remote button, 3 for each motion sensor, plus any scenes. So at least 80.
Bob Chase Posted December 30, 2018 Author Posted December 30, 2018 Gave the PLM and the ISY994 each a 1st birthday. Booted them up and ran Restore PLM. Then ran Restore Devices. An hour later, everything works fine!
