palayman Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Hi, I have an in line dimmer buried in a box in the attic. I don't know the address, but it's linked to button A on a 6 button switch dimmer. Would like to add it to some programs but don't know the address. Is there a way to figure it out. I suspect I can monitor messages, but can't figure out what to look for. Thanks, Paul
paulbates Posted January 1, 2019 Posted January 1, 2019 Hi Paul I have a couple of these controlling my attic fan and buried in fixtures around my house Was it linked with the ISY, or manually? Added to / linked with the ISY The device should exist in the ISY and you should be able to find it in the list of devices in the "Main" device tree and use it by name in ISY programs and scenes You don't want to use the insteon address with devices added to the ISY, once added to the ISY it manages that for you as Network Manager You don't want manually linked devices in a network where the ISY is the controller / network manager If you need the Insteon Address for some reason, it will be on the top of the right side of the screen when you click on it Manually Linked at the switch, not linked with / added to the ISY This could be harder. Is anything on the keypad linked with the ISY? If so, you possibly can use the event viewer Tools / Diagnostics / Event view Set to Level 3 device communication events Operate the key pad Look for D2D (Device to Device) messages in the viewer When I operate my key pad key linked with a scene to lamps, I see their acknowledgements back in the event view. I'm not sure what will happen if they weren't linked with the ISY, but this is easy enough to try. If the inlinelinc is not added to the ISY, I would think about factory resetting and recreating scenes with the ISY.. but I get it.. I have a number of inlinelincs from when I started and they are a pain to get to Let us know how / if this helped Paul
palayman Posted January 1, 2019 Author Posted January 1, 2019 Paul, Thanks I'll give this a shot. Paul
palayman Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 This is the log file I get when I push the button that runs on the inline dimmer that I do not have the address of. Unfortunately it does not seem to contain the address I am looking for. Is it perhaps encoded somewhere within? paulbates Posted January 3, 2019 Posted January 3, 2019 One of these should be the switch and the other the inlinelinc 25.07.42 and 13.01.03? If either of these is *not* the address of a device in your ISY, try adding it using New INSTEON Device in the linking menu and entering that address If they are both in your ISY, than one is the switch and the other the inlinelinc. Turn them on and off manually with the Admin Console to confirm which is which, and use the names in "Set <device name> on" statements in ISY programs Paul
palayman Posted January 3, 2019 Author Posted January 3, 2019 25.07.42 is the switch and has already been added. 44.CC.69 is my PLM. When I try to add 13.01.03 is says it cant determine insteon engine. I guess I'll have to crawl up in the attic in the spring. Paul
