Creating a scene to toggle on a KeypadLinc button

I watched the UD video on creating scenes but it overlooked how to create a scene like the one I have running on my Indigo software.  Instead it talked about how to set scene ON and OFF states to two different buttons, which is sort of wasteful of Keypad real estate and not all that intuitive for a user.  I want to use one button and have the button's ON/OFF state drive what's triggered on the responder.

I have 6 button KeypadLinc with ISY Button A (or Insteon Button 3) triggered to turn on my foyer ceiling light downstairs.  When Button A is turned ON it runs a scene that sets the foyer light ON.  And vice versa when Button A is turned off. Another scene is run to turn off the foyer light.  That's working in Indigo.

I can't see an obvious way to duplicate this in the Scene editor in the Administrative Console.  I'm sure it's possible but the video and tutorials don't really talk about how to attach a scene to a particular toggle state of KeypadLinc button.

Can anyone give me a tip?
....
Never mind!

It's a different problem entirely. My  PLM is having trouble turning that light on via a Scene.  The foyer ceiling light runs fine when I turn it on from the Administrative Console. But when I assign it to a scene triggered by a Button A on my KeypadLink and press that button the foyer light just flashes once quickly and goes out again.

Also, after I attempt (and fail) to turn on that light from the KeypadLinc, it seems like the scene jams up either the PLM or my (older) inLineLinc which is the responder for that foyer light. After I run that scene off my KeypadLinc and try to turn that light on from the Administrative Console I get "Cannot communicate Foyer Ceiling Light (7 8c 10 1). Please check connections." I have to cycle the light twice from the console to get it back.

Weird because this isn't happening with Indigo, which runs with a different PLM (2413U) but from the same wall socket.

I am a total beginner and not sure what you mean by ISY button A/Insteon button 3.  I had to change all my 6 button keypads to think they are 8 button to get rid of the symbiosis between the top and bottom wide buttons.  I then was able to easily toggle a scene with the top wide button or bottom wide button (and any of the little buttons) by just assigning them to the scene (in the case of the wide buttons both buttons underneath).  Maybe it's because when I went through the change procedure they all came up default in toggle mode, maybe button mode is your problem, but like I said I am just working though all this myself.

The KeypadLinc hardware assigns eight button #s.  In the eight button KeypadLinc the buttons are identified as 1 through 8.  In the six button KepadLink, the big ON button is Button 1. The large OFF button is Button 8.  The four smaller buttons are identified as Buttons 3, 4, 5 and 6.  In other words, there is no Button 2 or Button 7. The ISY software seems to sense whether you have a 6 or 8 button KeypadLinc.

The keypad button "A" should be added to the scene as a controller.

What are the 3 members of your scene?

There's no need to have two scenes to control the light. When the button Is on it will turn on the scene, and any other members of the scene,  and thus turn on the light. When the button is off it turns the scene off and the light will turn off as will all members of the scene.

Did you do a factory reset on the inlinelinc before you linked it to the ISY.

I can't factory reset the InlineLinc without removing the 50 pound chandelier it controls.  It lives in a deep handibox under the fixture cover.

But I don't think it's the InlineLinc because it works fine when I toggle it directly from the Administration Console screen.  It runs into this problem when it's controlled in a scene by a KeypadLinc controller button.

Question: when you create a scene does it push anything to the device's database?

When you create a scene the ISY will write/update the link tables in each device that's included in a scene. If the ISY has a problem communicating with a device in the scene then your link tables will not be correctly updated

Can you take a screenshot of your scene and post it.

Run diagnostics on your InlineLinc. Right click on the device, left click on  Diagnostics, click on Show device link tables.  After the link table fully populates click on Compare.  If the compare shows any mismatched links you should do a restore device.  The restore will rewrite the link tables to that device with the links that are stored in the ISY.

Okay, I believe I fixed my issue.  There was a hard link to the same device so the scene and the device were competing for the same responder.  I deleted it and it works.
