Use scenes or programs (ISY994i and Insteon)?

Hi,

I just setup a new ISY994i for my Insteon devices, which i used Insteon Hub to configure before. I found ISY994i programs are very powerful, there're no need to create scenes in ISY994i. Am i right?

thanks!

The answer depends on who's responding. For me, I prefer scenes. I only use programs to enhance my system. Others prefer programs over scenes. Ask them and they'd say it's best.

I prefer scenes because of uniformity and devices function outside of the isy. My Isy goes out my house still functions like normal.

In regards to uniformity, I like that everything happens together. Change scenes and all turn on/off together vs one at a time. The experience is simply unbeatable.

Sorry, but no, you are not right.

Programs are indeed powerful, but only do with a program what you CANNOT do with a scene.  The key is that scenes exist in the devices, and do not need the involvement of the ISY in order to execute.  This makes them both faster and more reliable.

I like scenes when possible as well.  I find it easier to manage my house as devices come and go.  Devices go into scenes.  Programs control scenes.  Adding devices requires no change in programs.  At least, this applies to actions.  Conditions are based upon individual devices.

Of course, there is an occasional exception with actions, but not many.
