jz6pwc Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Hello. This is my first time trying to add a Z-Wave device to my ISY994i. Not going well. I have tried some other poster tips on doing an exlcude then include, but still ISY just sits in the state of Listening.... Please advise.
simplextech Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 What's interesting is the product specs says it supports NWI yet it does not state that it is Z-Wave Plus.. the docs simply state Z-Wave....

Even if it does, since it's his 1st device, if it's out of range it wouldn't work anyway

lilyoyo1 Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 Also NWI works with some older devices depending on firmware. NWI is simply a requirement in Plus devices but optional in firmware 4.5 and below

But it is a Leviton so it should work as advertised... if there was a "Network" to use
jz6pwc Posted June 19, 2019 Author Posted June 19, 2019 Its probably 100 feet away. Is that an issue? If I bring the device closer for discover, then install it 100 feet away will it be able to control it? Mike
mwester Posted June 19, 2019 Posted June 19, 2019 100 feet may or may not work -- if it's in open air that might work, but given walls, floors, etc, I'd suggest 30 feet is more realistic between devices to set expectations. I have a few that work over a lot farther than that -- but I've one in particular (the ISY's 500-series dongle) that needs a device within about 5 or 10 feet. You'll need at least several always-on z-wave devices to form the mesh network, two devices almost always doesn't work well.

Its 100 feet and 2 stores up... so yeah some floors and walls in the way.

I would get at least 5 or 6 extra minimum to start
jz6pwc Posted June 20, 2019 Author Posted June 20, 2019 Update: I moved the device to within 15 feet and ISY immediately discovered it. This leads me to another question... I have a big property with several Insteon devices 100+ feet away. How many z-wave devices will I need to have to get reliable results at that distance?
