pdxcav Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 The first time this happened, I thought it was something that I did. However, now I have noticed this happening several times. The symptom is that I have Internet Access Enabled and I'm able to access my ISY 99i without any trouble from outside my home network. Then, occassionally (this has now happened about 3 times), periodically when I try to access my ISY from an external network, I can't. When I come home & check it out on my internal network, I discover that the ISY File menu now says "Enable Internet Access". So for some reason it disabled itself. Why? I have searched the forum posts & noticed that there are issues when an ISP provider dynamically changes IP address...but this isn't happening for me. My IP addr has not changed. Thanks.
Sub-Routine Posted June 19, 2009 Posted June 19, 2009 Hello pdxcav, Remotely_Connect_to_Your_ISY If your ISY or your router have rebooted and you have not set a static address for the ISY then your router will not always know which device to forward the port to. With some routers you can specify a port to be assigned according to the MAC address of the device and not be concerned with a static IP. http://www.portforward.com/ has some of the best info available. Select your router and then the program HTTPS. If you can do this do not select Enable Internet Access. Otherwise you will have to set a static address for the ISY. The only thing that is changing is that periodically (maybe every few days), the ISY disables internet access & I have to re-enable it. The external IP address that I use continues to be the same.
Michel Kohanim Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Hello pdxcav, Apologies for the inconvenience. I think the problem is that your router is assigning a new IP address to ISY (DHCP). When this happens, ISY has to disable the old port forwarding rules and create a new one. Sometimes, this does not work depending on the router. As such, it's always best to assign a static IP address to ISY: http://www.universal-devices.com/mwiki/ ... Furthermore, I have a static internal IP address that hasn't changed either. I am not using DHCP for the internal address. Because of this, I don't understand the relevance of your suggestions. Sorry...maybe I'm just being dense!

So, now, I must submit to you that ISY does NOT do anything with your router as long as its IP address does not change. So, are you certain that your router does NOT reboot? UPnP port forwarding does not survive router restarts. Would you be kind enough to: 1. Disable internet access on ISY 2. Create a manual port forwarding rule in your router (http://www.portforward.com) 3.
