99i flashes on Mem and Error

Hello,

I have not accessed my device directly in at about 2-months (yeah it works that well!) and just this past weekend I figured it was time to add some new scenes. When I went to access my ISY, I could not connect to it via my home network.

Once I decided to get up from my computer and physically examine the 99i, I noticed that it was intermittently flashing a the led on the MEM and Error lights.

I read here on the forum that this may be a network communication issue so I tried a number of solutions to correct. I have done the following:

- I tried a new network cable back to my router

- I tried a few different ports on my router and hub

- I also did a device reset via the recessed button on the front panel

None of these attempts have fixed the led flashes and I am still unable to connect to my device from either my local PC or via the Universal Devices/99i link.

Any ideas on how I can correct this problem?

Thanks!

Try rebooting your router then waiting 15 minutes. If the error and mem lights are still flashing, reboot your ISY one more time.

Please let us know your results.

Thanks!

Hello Mike,

I tried this and I am still getting the flashing leds and no communication.

What should I do next?

Thanks.

Is your router configured as a DHCP server?

If it is, please fill out a support ticket here and someone will get back to you:

Mike,

Yes, I do have my router configured as a DHCP server. I sent a note through the link.

Thanks for your help.

Well I got a phone call from tech support very, very quickly. My problem was that I had to remove the ISY from my network switch and plug it directly into the router.

I find it odd that is has worked for months through the switch but regardless, it was an easy fix.

Thanks!

Hello QuakeTen,

Would you be kind enough to let me know the brand/model number of your switch?

In normal cases, ISY should work even when connected to a switch (not another hub) but there has been some reports of ISY having problem with some certain switches. I would appreciate your input.

With kind regards,

Michel

Hello QuakeTen, thanks so very much for this information. We have never had this problem reported with Cisco routers. Just to confirm this is indeed an issue, would you be kind enough to retry the switch and let me know if you can reproduce?

With kind regards,

Michel

Sure,

I am using the following:

Cisco Small Business SR216 10/100Mbps Switch 16 x RJ45 - Retail

did you have a power line disturbance recently? if so this is the likely cause. you will need to try to reset your 99i at least 3-4 times before getting it back. that is, do a hardware reset and keep the button pressed until you see all the lights flash, then keep repaeating this. i had exactly the same issue and was able to recover the 99i.

good luck.

Hello ttirelli,

Thanks so very much for this update. This was indeed a bug which has been fixed in 2.7.5 and above. What firmware version do you currently have?

With kind regards,

Michel

Hello,

Sorry but I've been away from the forums for a little bit and I am just getting back into the swing.

ttirelli,

I have had some disturbances recently but I really can't relate them back to the 99i issue. This is because I really did not access the 99i for several weeks so it could have been related, or maybe not.

Michel,

I have went back to using Cisco switch instead of the router and I do not have any problems.

When I am in the admin console, the about button tells me that I have version 2.7.0 so it sounds like I also need an upgrade.

Thanks!
