KeypadLinc Top Four Buttons Working Bottom Four Not Working

Flex

Recommended Posts

I have an eight button Insteon (2334-2) v.45 KeypadLinc where the top four buttons work normally. The ISY sees the top four button presses with no issues. Both programs and scenes associated with the top four buttons function as desired. However, the bottom 4 button presses are not read by the isy994. I have tried writing updates, device restore and then factory resetting the keypad then doing a device restore. Everything I have tried results in the same functionality. This is on a new revision 2.5 PLM now. By the way I can change the buttons toggle mode via the admin console with no issues. But still the bottom four buttons still are not read or seen by the ISY. This was working fine before my PLM was replaced. The only thing I have not done is to delete the device and re-add it. That will require rebuilding the scenes and finding all the <Not Specified> text in the programs and replacing that with the correct device. Any ideas as to what may have gone wrong or is wrong?

Thanks,

Flex

What version of the ISY firmware and UI are you running?

Run a diagnostics on the Keypad. |  Show device link tables. After the link table fully populates click on compare. Do you see any mismatched link tables.

Smarthome has some great Black Friday pricing on keypads today.

I am running 4.7.3 for both this ISY and the UI. All records are identical with the exception of a record mismatch at 0f70 : E2 04 (which had the address of an old keypadlinc that was replaced today, as it was doing similarly as this one). With it only the connected light responded, none for the buttons worked.) And then very last record in the device links table reads (Identical/Ignore). replacing that one brought back the desired functionality. Even the newly installed Keypadlinc has one record mismatch.

Yes I did purchase an 8 button keypad linc along with three other items yesterday. Thank-you for your reply and notice of the sale.

I'd like to add a little more detail to this situation. It turns out that even though both devices exhibit one record in their respective device links table readings (Record mismatch). The new device works  correctly, that is the ISY sees all of its buttons when pressed. The old device in that location only the top and bottom buttons worked. The middle four did not. So replacement of that device fixed the issue in regards to the ISY seeing the new device's button presses. However, it shows just one mismatched record. And that mismatched record refers to the Insteon address of the device that it replaced. So, the question remains is the device in question, the 8 button keypadlinc, bad, since 4 of its buttons do not work. Or is something else going on.

Thanks

If the isy sees all buttons when pressed then the device is not bad. Those buttons are sending out signals like it should. Instead of replacing the failed device, I'd completely delete the device from the scene and isy as well as the new device. Factory reset the new device and re-add it to the isy

If you do a restore device it should clear up the mismatch link record. You might want to reboot the ISY before the restore device

I have done a device restore, on Techman's advice, on all three of my KeypadLincs, since each one had one record mismatched. Doing so ,after restarting the ISY,  fixed the mismatched records on all three. However, the issue remains with the Keypad Linc I am trying to remedy. The top four buttons still continue to function and the bottom four do not. Now, I can change the individual buttons from non-toggle to toggle mode and back with no issues. But if any of the four bottom buttons are put into toggle mode, and are turned on at the device, the ISY at the admin console does not show them as being turned on. My new 8 button Keypadlinc shipped Monday, and is not expected until six days from now as I write this. This broken Keypad Linc is a version .45. The newest is V.45. It is a 6 button KeypadLinc. The third one is a bit older at V.43. It is also a 6 button KeypadLinc. I don't believe the button count means much as I believe you can change from 8 button mode to 6 and the other way around. Everything else on the Insteon network is working fine.

Do a factory reset on the Keypad. Pull out the set button, then push it in and hold it until the keypad beeps. Continue hold down the set button until the beeping stops,, then do a restore device. If that doesn't resolve your problem then I would suggest replacing the keypad.

If you replace the 6 button device with a 8 button you'll probably have to delete the 6 button from the ISY then install the 8 button as a new device and program it from scratch. The replace device only works for like devices, i.e. a 6 button for a 6 button.

  • 2 weeks later...

Actually the device was okay. I added a new device (while on the bench), an 8 button, to replace the original 8 button, and at the initial installation everything worked fine on the new device, all 8 buttons. I then did a "replace with" and tried it and found the bottom 4 buttons did not respond, just like before. So I factory reset the original device and added it as if it was new, and then rebuilt it, scenes and all, from scratch, and now it is working fine. So if I had just deleted the original device and redid everything again from scratch it would have been okay. Thanks again for your help.
