ulrick65 Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 I found a Ventstar Thermostat T7900 at a great price and finally broke down and bought it. I am now going to install NodeLink. I downloaded the script but I noticed that it references the pi user home folder quite a bit. I actually modified the pi user to a different user name (mostly for convenience, but it works well with my other things I am doing with my RPI's. I assume I can simply update the script to reference the new home folder name, but thought I better ask @io_guy and see if there is anything I should be concerned about? I have my RPI imaged, so I am not to worried about screwing it up...so going to give it a shot. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
ulrick65 Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 I got it installed and running and connect to ISY. I couldn't find and documentation to tell me how to setup the Venstar T7900 with it, put it seemed fairly intuitive so I went about it. I did get it setup. It resides on a different VLAN in my network then NodeLink does, so at first I was getting a couldn't connect, I realized I had to open the firewall, which I did. Now I get the following error: Venstar: Get Error - Connection refused [ven1] Can you point me in the right direction as to how to get it connected? I saw a reference to a "How To" but couldn't find it. Any documentation out there I should be reading? Thanks for the help.
Bumbershoot Posted January 7, 2020 Posted January 7, 2020 @ulrick65, on your Venstar, you may need to turn on the local API to get the thermostat to talk to NodeLink: Menu | Wi-Fi | Local API Options | Local API - ON

Working like a champ now! Now I just need to figure out how to get my firewall setup so I can re-enable it and only allow NodeLink to Talk with Venstar through it. What specific protocol and ports does it need? Thanks @Bumbershoot Man...I love this forum!

ulrick65 Posted January 8, 2020 Author Posted January 8, 2020 Ok, have to mess around and figure things out...but first thing is to get Alexa to set the temperature. I am sure I can do it through Venstar Skill (havent looked) but I can't see how to do that in ISY? Alexa does not recognize the device as a Thermostat...like it did the old one. Am I missing something here? Thanks.
Bumbershoot Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 I use the Venstar skill, but you have to have a Venstar Skyport account to use it. The account is free, and it works fine with Alexa. https://venstar.com/skyport/

The only thing you can't do is change modes, which is easily done in ISY. Great stuff...works like a champ!
