TomNow2 Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 Hi Everyone, I am wondering if anyone has tried using a zwave button with their setup. I purchased this one; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0799SF1KC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And looking at the admin console, it doesn't matter what button I press, it still only activates the first button to 'on'. It's impossible for me to program different scenes for different buttons. Is there something specific I need to do so each button registers the appropriate 'on'? Thank you. Tom
asbril Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I had not seen this before. Pls let us know if and how it performs.

simplextech Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Sorry.... I don't have that button so I've never tested it.
mapeter Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Is your ISY on 4.x or 5.x? I wonder if it requires multichannel in 5.x.

I would suggest you submit a technical support request with UDI. That will get the formal process started for you so before doing so. Please log the exclude / include logs with your support request. This way they can see the communications received and processed by the 994 Series Controller. Let us know what happens . . .
TomNow2 Posted June 24, 2020 Author Posted June 24, 2020 Just to close the loop I did submit a ticket and basically this won't work as it would need new firmware. I ended up setting up zigbee through Home Assistant and am using the ~$12 samsung button instead

Yet another example of Z-Wave hardware that isn’t Plug & Play and requires custom firmware to make use of these one off products. The Z-Wave alliance touts third party hardware which span many gadgets but never speaks about the lack of consistent use of their standards! There is no such thing as true backward / forward compatibility with Z-Wave controllers. Then again the bulk of consumer Home Automation is based on 1970 technology. Nobody serious about lighting & load control use power line / RF. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There are gaps in the current certification process for sure and those mostly fall in the groups of "sensors" but outside that scope the command classes are pretty static and published. There are always "additions" from particular vendors (fibaro I like to pick on) that are outside of normal but they are additions to the standard classes so they still comply with certification requirements of minimal functionality for cross-gateway compatibility. Something a lot of people don't seem to understand and even some other "hub" vendors apparently didn't understand this. It does NOT matter if the Z-Wave Controller aka Z-Wave device board that is the radio aka USB stick or other board are "Z-Wave Certified" this does NOT make the Gateway certified as the "software" stack that actually "does something" with the information from the radio must go through certification. If you look up on the Z-Wave Product DB there are sections for Computer controller interfaces and Gateway Controllers, etc.

Speaking for myself *Overall* the home automation experience has been very positive over the years. At this juncture though my plans are to get really serious about load control, safety, and security. Insteon will continue to be used as my base lighting but the core system will be migrated to something more industrial / enterprise level. Once the Polyisy becomes the next generation controller it will be the one ring that rules them all . . .

TomNow2 Posted June 25, 2020 Author Posted June 25, 2020 I ended up buying a Vera Plus yesterday since it seems to have high compatibility with both zwave and zigbee and (most importantly) I can use it offline, the icing is that it has integration with Home Assistant (I've been trying to play with open zwave on HA with a zwave/zigbee USB stick but it's still pretty complicated for me)

I have 2. A word of caution is they are severely memory limited and disk space limited so do not install a lot of apps or you will run into problems. If you plan to do automation through Vera you will have to buy and learn PLEG or you can use HASS for your automation. One thing I in your post of the "high compatibility" with Zigbee.... yeah not really. All of the common basic device types are supported from Vera/Centralite devices but there's really very limited support outside of what's on their "Supported" List. There's a new Ezlo version of the Vera Plus in beta currently. I'm watching to see what improvements they make. It should be interesting.
