AFCI & GFCI - Eaton Feedback

Back in 2017 I stumbled upon this video regarding nuisance tripping for AFCI & GFCI's. I would say 90% of the information was known to me but there were a few nuggets that were new! One of the major take away's was older technology regardless of the brand just sucked. I would say when GFCI's were first brought to market the endless tripping seen by various manufactures was truly a epic failure.

Now, with the advent of AFCI's being mandated in almost every North American home the big push to resolve the same (1st generation) nuisance tripping is underway. Having tested four brands and models of combination AFCI / GFCI breakers these third generation protection devices appear on the surface to be very solid. In the video he talks about mixed loads of LED & Incandescent / Florescent.

The next big hitter are appliances with high current motors like vacuums, shop vacs, table saws, etc.

One interesting thing near the end of the video is the question from a so called electrician asking about why they can't tie neutrals from two electrical legs?!?

Honestly, when I heard that question my first thought was please don't let this so called electrician stay in the business - stupid!

Lastly, I found it interesting that of the four large vendors only Eaton took the time to reply back. From personal experience I can vouch for Eaton's follow up vs others such as Levinton which truly is sh^t in ever offering feedback. One only needs to deal with their so called customer support and warranty department which is manned by lazy, incompetent fools! The final take away from this video is AFCI / Combination AFCI & GFCI's are still being fine tuned so your YMMV!
