Another error log item I cannot decipher

I noticed my system gets "non-responsive" at times (ie, I hit a button to turn on a light and nothing happens for a long while (several minutes), then the light goes on.  I copied the following excerpt from last nights error log - can someone tell me 1) is this a problem? 2) If so, what causes it? and 3) How can I fix it?

Thanks, Bob

What router?

@baabm  What you are seeing is the DHCP lease renewal. With a quick look, it seems that your router is releasing all of the DHCP leases every 30 minutes. Go to your router admin console, login and find the DHCP lease renewal setting (Usually in advanced settings). Adjust it so that the leases expire at a longer time interval.

Many ISP provided Modem/routers don’t handle many devices even though the address space seems to be there. Every time the router DHCP leases expire, all of your devices (especially WiFi, immediately try to obtain another DHCP lease. This can cause some delays, and with some routers, devices don’t get a lease renewal for a noticeable period of time.

Another thing to do is go into DHCP settings and set lease reservations for all of your devices. This helps to speed up lease renewal and you will always know the IP address of your devices.

@HABit - thanks for your response. I guess I didn't hit "follow" on this question since I am just now seeing your response. Anyway, I went into the router DHCP and found the timeout set to 3600 (which seems weird since the ISY was re-leasing every 30 minutes, not 60 like the router seems to be set to.) Anyway, I set it to 36000, which should give me 10 hours before the leases expire. Hopefully that helps.

Regarding your 2nd suggestion, are you saying that I should assign static addresses to all my devices? Or is this something else. I have tried going into the router page "Client list", but the routers busy icon just keeps spinning and I never seem to get there. Not sure what to do when I do get there though.

Thanks again,

Bob

Not static addresses but "reserved" in DHCP. Try looking under Advanced Settings in your router (or some similar sounding name for DHCP lease reservations (again whatever your router admin console calls it). That function basically associates a MAC address to an IP in the DHCP map so on boot/lease renewal, the same IP address is issued to the device.  Spinning/busy icon - Have you tried rebooting the router?
