Brad Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Had a weird thing happen to me tonight when adding an Insteon On/Off module. After linking the Insteon module, a new Z-Wave device appeared in the device list. I have a Z-Wave outlet module that was registered as ZW002_1. I've had it linked for over a year with no problems. After adding the new Insteon device, the mystery Z-Wave device has an address of ZW002_184 and is listed as a Barrier device. I have no barrier devices that I'm aware of. The only other Z-Wave devices I have are a thermostat (ZW004_1) and an alarm panel(ZW003_1) and a sub-device of the alarm panel(ZW003_119). The ZW002_1 device is linked to the alarm panel so I can monitor the armed/disarmed state of my security system. Could one of the automatic updates of the security panel firmware have caused a virtual device to have been created? ISY 994i/IR ProFirmware: 5.0.16CZ-Wave: 21100

Zwave creates new nodes sometimes. Just delete it. Then choose zwave>options>freeze nodes to prevent that from happening Edited July 31, 2020 by lilyoyo1

The freeze option unfreezes when restarting the AC and then whatever was deleted will eventually come back. I have given up (so far) on permanent solution and created a "phantom devices" folder where I put those nodes.

I do the same when I initially set up devices but then choose freeze once done. So far I haven't seen any new nodes but time will tell. I also dont look at my device tree unless I need something specific so that may contribute to why I haven't noticed

Maybe the difference is that I use the AC multiple times every day.

Have you tried using the dashboard instead of AC to see if that cuts down? I dont like to use the dashboard and just learned to live with the phantom nodes. One day not too far, I hope, the AC will be replaced with a non-java and smoother software. 1
Brad Posted August 1, 2020 Author Posted August 1, 2020 Thanks for the responses. At least it's just not me having a problem. It's just odd how I've had these Z-Wave devices for several years and it just recently started happening.
