Relinking a 2440 remote

I have a 2440 remote that I set up long ago, probably even before I had the ISY hub. I want to change what one of the buttons controls.

I made the change in the admin console, but have been unable to get the changes uploaded to the remote. I realize it's an RF device that sleeps, so I have to do something to put it into a mode where it will accept reprogramming. I tried using it to turn a light on and then off to wake it up (which I seemed to remember was the trick), and then telling the admin console to upload the new programming, but it doesn't upload. I use the "write updates to device" command, and the AC goes through all the "please do not power off or unplug the device" screens, but when it's done, the icon still indicates there are updates to be uploaded and the switch has not been reprogrammed.

I checked out both the 2440 and the ISY instruction booklet, and neither one of them has any information on what I need to do. Can somebody tell me?

I had issues with 2440 RemoteLinc remotes and the later 2413S PLM.

Try this as it may help.

Go as far away from the PLM as reasonable. So all the communications between the PLM and the 2440. Have to use a different Dual Band module to talk to each other.  Before waking up the 2440 and starting the wanted changes writing.

The device must be put into linking mode. If memory serves correct, holding one of the buttons down for 10 seconds will put it into linking mode. Then set up your scene.

As stated above me, if you have the isy pro, turn off battery writes, update your scenes, put remote into linking mode, then turn on writes and choose write updates

That was the 100% correct answer. Worked like a champ. Thanks.

Sorry to bump, but having a related problem, and have tried all of the suggestions in the Archived threads already.

I have a 2440 RemoteLinc.

Originally, I had an RF receiver in the house too, and it worked, but back in those days it was manually linked to everything. Now that I have finally grasped the concepts of ISY, I wanted to use it again. I have a number of dual-band devices (at least 5-6?) and so I think if I understand what I have read, I don't need the old RF receiver - do I?

I can't add it manually, as there is no address sticker in the back compartment.

I have pulled the battery and followed the manual, to totally reset the remotelinc, just to be sure, and that was successful.

When I pick the blue/yellow arrow, and the modem clicks, I try and put into remote linking mode, either pressing BRIGHT & DIM at the same time, as many posts suggested, or just pressing any button for 10 seconds, neither make it show up in ISY.

I have tried wrapping it in tinfoil, I have tried going outside, 40ft down the driveway and doing it from the hood of the car... is that far enough away? :-)

Open to ideas here... maybe I have missed something basic. (the old RF receiver is probably here somewhere if I look around enough and someone thinks I need it)

Thanks much!

Andrew

The six digit ID number sticker was inside the battery compartment on all of mine. Not too easy but in a pinch you could manually link it to a module in the ISY setup. Then do a Show Devices Link table on that module. Then a compare. The extra link in the module is the six digit ID on the 2440.

I found with mine it could not be close to the 2413S PLM for it to use its Insteon RF receiver. I had to put it far enough away to make a different RF receiver like an Access Point, Range Extender or Dual Band module to receive the RF commands and relay them back to the PLM on the power lines. I had to start the 2440 in its linking mode than run back to the ISY994i and start the adding the module.

Are you using the Link a Remotelinc choice in the Link Management Menu? Where you put the six digit ID and a name for the 2440 into the add screen. Then put the 2440 into its linking mode and tell the program to find it. The Start Linking mode has never worked for me only the choice in the Link Management menu. If you have a PRO version. Enable automatic writes to battery modules.

The old RF receiver should not be needed. Though you could temporarily put it back far enough away from the PLM so the power line was used back to the PLM. Then use it to add the 2440 into the system.

I am having trouble now updating my last 2440. I replaced a switch and needed to write updates to the 2440. I put new batteries in it and put it far away from the PLM (as I also have one of the PLMs that will not talk to it) and I cannot succeed in the write updates. I have done this a dozen times using this distant programming method without fail, but now I cannot make it work. This is the first time I have tried since moving to the 5.x branch and I wonder if it is related?

Followup: After a painful factory reset of the 2440 and a full restore using the far away trick, I am back in operation. I guess the 2440 had a glitch that required a wipe to allow comms to resume.
