Problem - Scenes Will not Work

I just purchased this ISY-99i pro v2.7.0

I connected it and PLM according to the instruction.

I added about 12 INSTEON devices and created about 4 scenes. With some small changes everything was working fine. Then I tried to backup my configuration, it seemed to write the file without any errors. I first tried this on a MAC, then tried the restore on a PC (XPPro) I have Java VM 1.6 on the PC. Not sure on MAC But when I tried to restore the backup I got allot of Java errors. I seemed to loose everything. I did a factory reset. unplugged the PLM and started over from scratch. I added 1 LampLinc 2 pin v.28 device and created 1 scene containing this device. If I access the device in the scene I can turn it on and off with the Applied locally slider but in the scene the on level is 100% but turning on and off the scene does not work at all. I have re-created the scene and device several times but can not get this thing to work. No error light on the ISY-99.

the ISY-99, PLM and the LampLinc device are in the same room, same circuit and about 10 ft apart. I read the manual and Wiki put have not found the problem.

Hi Tom,

I am so very sorry to hear about all these problems.

I think it would be best to call our support line to schedule a tech call.

In the meantime, please remove the device from ISY, do a factory reset on it (very important), then add it back in. If a device responds to on but not off, then I suspect a factory reset should be quite helpful.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel,

Thanks for the response.

I got things working again.

Even after a factory reset and re-adding the devices I had to do a Restore Device from the right click menu for each device I had originally added. I still would like to do the backup restore process but this is were things started to go bad last time. I received Java errors when I tried to restore the back-up. Any idea's what would cause this?

Thanks

Hi Tom,

Great. Upgrade issues are usually related to firewall software. Would you be kind enough to checkout this forum and see if you can find your firewall software and all remedies thereto:

Please keep me posted.

This is driving me nuts!

I have 2 LampLinc v33 Plugged into the same outlet. About 30ft from my PLM.

I also have a keypadLinc v29. I setup a scene with the 2 lampLincs and the ON/OFF on the keypadlink. With some playing around it works fine locally from the keypadlink. Not sure why the buttons on the keypadlink flash 3-4 times after I press it.

I setup 2 more scenes both containing the 2 LampLinks. 1 turns them both on the other turns them both off. From the admin console I tested all 3 scenes. The admin console always shows the 2 lights in the proper state BUT randomly it will not control

the actual light. The admin console says it is on but the light is actually off.

It appears that I have a problem with the PLM communicating with the LampLinc modules. This happens with many other INSTEON devices around the house.

I am attempting this upgraded to improve the reliability and programability of the INSTEON network. Previously I was using a PLM with Homeseer and got about 85-90% reliability. The ISY-99 so far is much worse and I am considerig returning it and going back to my previous setup.

The PLM is on the same phase as the LampLink modules and I do have 2 access points 1 on each phase. Some wireless INSTEON motion detectors work fine. I have tried the new PLM which is a 2412S V3.1 purchased with the ISY-99 and the old PLM V2.8 same results. The Ethernet cable that come with it are very short about 3 ft. I have a cable about 30ft from my router to the ISY-99 and another about 20ft from ISY-99 to PLM. So far the ISY-99/PLM seems very unstable in its ability to reliably communicate with INSTEON devices. Not sure if I have a noise problem on my wiring.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot and diagnose this situation would be very helpful.

So far I have spent about 3 days working on this. I seems to be getting worse not better.

Hi Tom,

I am so very sorry to hear about all these problems you are having.

The first thing I would like to suggest is removing extra scenes: you do not need two scenes one to turn the lamplincs on and the other to turn them off. You can use the same scene with the KPL as the controller for controlling your lamplincs.

Now, let's try and figure out why you have all these issues. The most important piece of information here is that your KPL blinks. This means that the responders to the KPL are either not responding OR that they are responding by the KPL does not hear them. My questions:

1. Did you factory reset your devices before adding them to your ISY? If not, then it's quite possible that they have links to your OLD PLM which might no longer be on the powerline

2. When you added your devices to ISY, did you use the first option (remove existing links)?

May I humbly recommend the following courses of action:

1. Since you had better comm. reliability with HS, would you be kind enough to move your ISY and the PLM to where the HS PLM was previously plugged into?

2. Would you be kind enough to remove the KPL from ISY, do a factory reset on it, and then add it back using the first option (remove existing links). After you are done with this step, click on all the KPL buttons, make sure their status is updated correctly on ISY, and ensure that they do not blink

Once you are done with the above, we are going to add one lamplinc back into ISY (using the same method as 2). We have to make sure ISY can communicate with the lamplinc before adding it to a scene. If it does, then we would create a scene and add the KPL and LL into that scene. After this step, please use Tools | Diagnostics | Scene Test to make sure the devices respond to the scene.

Once you are done with these steps, please let us know. If all is OK, then we can go ahead with the rest of the units. If not, please call/contact us and we'll try to do a remote debug to make sure your system is 100%.

With kind regards,

Michel

Michel,

My KPL is working better. I removed it from ISY. Did a factory reset on the device.

Added it back into ISY with the option to remove all links. The status of all buttons was correct in ISY admin console. I removed the 2 Lamp Links from ISY and factory reset them. I added them back to ISY with the option to remove all links. I created a scene with the KPL main ON/OFF button and the 2 lamplincs. KPL link is working know turns both lamplincs on and off reliably. No blinking.

I plugged the PLM in were I had the old one. Replaced the cable for ISY to PLM with the short one supplied. Still a problem, when I control this scene from the admin console one lamplinc does not turn on or off randomly. The status in the admin console thinks it turned them both one or off, but the actual lamp does not actually turn on. This is intermittent and randomly affect both lamplinc modules. They are plugged into the same outlet. I tried moving one to another outlet, no help. I removed one of the lamplincs from the scene, The admin console does not reliably turn one on/off reliably. I ran the scene test and it returned successful several times.

Another issue, in the same room I have a ICON dimmer switch 2876D3 that controls an overhead light. The dimmer controls the light correctly. I would also like the A button on the KPL to control this light. I created a scene with the dimmer and KPL-A.

KPL-A controls the light correctly but if I turn on the dimmer it does not light up KPL-A. Minor compared to the reliability problem described above.

Thanks for your help

Hi Tom,

Glad to hear things are better. Let's go backwards:

1. For your KPL/Icon Dimmer overhead light issue, what you want to do is to make sure that your Icon Dimmer is ALSO a CONTROLLER in the same scene. This basically means that these two devices will control one another such that when you click on the Dimmer, your KPL button will follow the status of the Dimmer

2. On your lamplinc issue, I have no choice but to assume that there are some noise/signal issues. Would you be kind enough to plug both LampLincs directly on the PLM and see if this helps. If this is helpful, then it means that somehow the signal is getting lost from the PLM to your LampLincs. But, before going that route, let's make sure the problem is not with the LampLincs themselves.

With kind regards,

Michel
