slimypizza Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 Through a series of ridiculous and unfortunate events, I lost use of my ISY994i for a bit and in the process removed it from the UD Portal. It’s all back now; the ISY functionality and my portal account is active. However, although all devices are listed in the Alexa app, they each say “Device is unresponsive. If its no longer in use, tap “Edit” to remove from Alexa app.” I have removed devices (rediscovery does not bring them back), unlinked and then linked again the ISY Smart Home V3 skill. and anything else I can think of to make active the Insteon devices in my home. Alexa is responsive in all other areas. Sonos speakers are working just fine, etc. Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? I cannot control any Insteon devices through Alexa. Thank you in advance.
JHyder Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 If anyone has suggestions or a solution that would be much appreciated. In a nutshell the issue is that the Alexa app will not re-discover the Insteon devices in my the home network. After the ISY was restored from being offline and also from the Portal account not being active, the Alexa app listed all Insteon devices but said they were unresponsive. I then removed them from Alexa with the hope of adding them back but Alexa evidently doesn’t think they are new and so won’t discover them. As a result, we’re unable to control any Insteon devices through Alexa now. Any thoughts on how to reset Alexa to discover the existing devices? I have unlinked ISY Optimized for Smart Home V3 and relinked a couple of times now. Deleted and reinstalled the Amazon Alexa app… All met the same results. Would creating a new account on the Alexa app help? I don’t want to compound the issue by having duplicate accounts but willing to try most anything. I tried to add devices manually and found it odd that Insteon was not a listed device manufacturer (example for switches) so that effort met a brick wall as well.
oberkc Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 The only thing that I can think to do would be to remove the devices from the portal and add them back, trying to rediscover them after adding them back. Another option is to get rid of the ISY skill from alexa and add it back. i apologize if you have already trid these things.
slimypizza Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 Thank you. I have unlinked and linked already the ISY skill. Deleted and reinstalled the Alexa app as well. I can delete spokens from the Portal but I don’t see how to delete devices. Do I have to go back and delete them in the ISY and add them back !? I do not see why removing devices from the Alexa app and then trying to have it re-discover those devices does not work. I will make a backup of the ISY and then add a few devices back as a test to see if Alexa can find them.
TomL Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 You can try removing all devices from alexa and rediscovering, by going to alexa.amazon.com, sign into your account, go to smarthome on left menu, go to devices, scroll to the very bottomand there is an option to forget all devices. Wait a minute or 2 and rediscover devices. This may help, not sure if this is what you refer to as removing devices above. 2

No, I do not expect that this would help. 1 hour ago, slimypizza said: I can delete spokens from the Portal but I don’t see how to delete devices. In the portal, I see a red "x" next to each device. This is how I would delete them. 1 hour ago, slimypizza said: I do not see why removing devices from the Alexa app and then trying to have it re-discover those devices does not work. Neither do i, but I have no insight into the design of alexa or the interface between it and other electronics.
slimypizza Posted January 8, 2021 Author Posted January 8, 2021 I do not see a red X next to each device in Portal. In fact, while in Portal, the only place I see my devices listed is when I go to: Select Tool/Connectivity/Amazon Echo and then got to Device and then the My device drop down menu. This is where one would add Spokens and there are no red X’s. Does this indicate something wrong with my Portal setup? To further troubleshoot, I created a new profile for my Alexa app and enabled the ISY V3 skill. Then I had Alexa discover new devices but it found nothing. I’m reaching my wits end with this but cant help but feel this has something to do with my Portal account. I’m open to suggestions as to what to try next. The goal is to have the Alexa app discover the 30+ Insteon devices I have installed. They all worked fine prior to my router failing and taking down several other services. All is restored now except ISY/Alexa functionality. Alexa works with my wifi thermostats, Ambient Weather Station, and Sonos system but will not reload my Insteon devices.

When I take that same path, this is what I see, including the little red "x" next to each device. Are you saying that you have no devices listed!!?? Unfortunately, I don't know enough to conclude what this means. Yes, I find it plausible that there might be something wrong with the portal account. Edited January 8, 2021 by oberkc
slimypizza Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 Thanks oberkc. I got it sorted out now thanks to you and to Brad at Universal Devices. In my rush to get things back to order here, I forgot the need to add a spoken for each device. Programs were intact but the devices were not named and so they were not detected by the Alexa app. Your comments and screen shot were much appreciated.
