sub-account limit?

Is there a limit to how many sub-accounts can be registered on an ISY? I've created 12 sub-accounts in the isy portal to use for echo devices in different rooms, and was able to create all 12 without issue. I was able to register 5 of them in the ISY admin console, but when I try to register additional sub-accounts, I'm getting a "Bad Request" error.

ISY Portal has no limits to the number of sub-accounts.

But, ISY has a limit to the number of accounts it can be part of, and I believe it's 5.

Of course the specific answer to your question is above. I’m curious to ask why are you using a different account for each Alexa. I have 8 units in my house using the same Alexa skill -> portal -> ISY. Is there a security or control issue you are concerned about?  Interested; one of us may learn something here, likely me.

Ok, is there any workaround for the 5 account limit, or is the answer just that I need to buy additional ISY's and portal subscriptions?

Sjenkins, the reason I use a different account for each room is that there is no way to make routines or device spokens other than "lights" specific to the echo device that hears them. For example, I have shades in multiple rooms, and I want to be able to just say "Alexa, shades up", instead of, "alexa, bedroom shades up". If they were all on one account, there would be no way to do that. But using separate accounts for each room, I can define "shades" as a different ISY action item for each room to achieve the above goal.

There's unfortunately no work around I can think of.

Mpg,

Have you played around with Alexa groups at all? They were pretty basic at first but work “ok” now. If you put the Alexa for the room in the group I know the “Alexa lights on” works well generically in multiple rooms.  The same is claimed & may be true with other devices. If you go into the app there is help for groups that is much much better than when it first came out. You can even nest groups now.

That's a great idea. Wish I had thought of it when I set up new place. I wanted to do the same thing but didn't know how to do it.
