I am on firmware 5.0.9, for been working solid figured why mess.. I noticed that my scene with RemoteLinc 2 and Insteon Plug-In Appliance 2456S3 that there was an error with the Appliance module. So I added a new once, tried to run the replace command with no success.. So then manually added to the scene the new 2456S3 and same problem error and now cannot SET/Add either the old module or the new Module.. Seems something corrupted.. Is this a known issue with firmware 5.0.9 for it looks like now I have 2 dead Insteon Plug-In Appliance module 2456S3... Or is there a RESET button of some sort that I could try on both of these, now dead ? 2456S3 modules ??

Help been one of those days...

Is the new a 2456 as well or 2635-222. Just checking as the 2456 has been discontinued for years.

Have you tried rebooting the isy? Was the remote in linking mode when you did the swap? Does your firmware and UI match

The 2456S3 is an older Insteon module.

Power line only communications.

Depending on its revision I1 only communications. So lots of power line commands maybe passing between the 2456S3 and the ISY's PLM.

Is the LED on the module on?

Factory Reset is in the full manual but if you don't have it and can't find it.

The factory-reset procedure can be used to clear the ApplianceLinc module’s memory and restore its
factory default settings. This procedure will clear the unit of all INSTEON Links, and any programmed
X10 Primary Address, or X10 Scene Addresses.
1. Before resetting an ApplianceLinc that has been linked to an INSTEON Controller, be sure to unlink it
from the Controller first. See Unlinking ApplianceLinc from an INSTEON Controller, above.
2. Unplug ApplianceLinc for about 10 seconds.
3. While holding down the black SET Button on ApplianceLinc, plug it back in.
4. After plugging ApplianceLinc back in, continue to hold down the black SET Button for 3 seconds.
5. Release the black SET Button.
6. After several seconds, the ApplianceLinc module’s Status LED will turn on and the device you
plugged in will come on, indicating that the factory reset is complete. ApplianceLinc is now reset to all
the default settings and ready for fresh programming and use.
Enabling or Disabling Local Control (Load Sensing)
Local Control allows you to manually turn on the device you plugged into ApplianceLinc by using the
switch on the device itself, without sending a command from an INSTEON or X10 Controller. When
ApplianceLinc module’s controlled (bottom) outlet is turned off (with Local Control enabled),
ApplianceLinc can “sense” that you are trying to turn on your device with the device’s built-in switch.
When ApplianceLinc “senses” this, it will turn on its controlled (bottom) outlet automatically.
Caution: With Local Control enabled, some devices have been known to turn on your ApplianceLinc after
you have turned it off. Please use this feature with caution.
• For product versions 4.0 or higher Local Control is disabled by default (reference version
number on label on back of unit, for example V4.0).
To enable Local Control:
1. Press and hold the black SET Button on ApplianceLinc for 3 seconds. The white Status LED
will begin flashing to confirm that you are in setup mode.
2. “Triple tap” the black SET Button by quickly tapping it three times.
3. The status LED on ApplianceLinc will stop flashing and Local Control will be enabled.
To disable Local Control, repeat steps 1-3, substituting a “double tap” instead of a “triple tap” in
step

Thank you so much, yes using the 2456S3 module Ver 4.9... To clarify, everything was working fine under ISY firmware 5.0.4, When I upgraded to firmware 5.0.9 due to adding the new chime, this is when the issue began and was not until just recently that I thought I should address this.

Now I did try to reset the 2456S3... Holding the SET Button I plugged the Module back into a receptacle, and held the SET Button for another 3 seconds... Still no LED light.

During the write process when I tried to make the RemoteLinc 2 Switch control the responder 2456S3, this is when the 2456S3 "corrupted" and cannot seem to be able to reset it ?? The dead units I did delete from the ISY so no issues, and just happened to have my last spare of the 2456S3.. which linked no problem and I can control with the ISY, but definitely not going to be syncing with the RemoteLinc 2 for I have now lost 2 of the 2456S3..

Going to try one more time to do a factory reset of the 2456S3 module as per above.. But seems I am now limited to steps 3-5

3. While holding down the black SET Button on ApplianceLinc, plug it back in.
4. After plugging ApplianceLinc back in, continue to hold down the black SET Button for 3 seconds.
5. Release the black SET Button.

Appreciate

PS.. not liking it but realizing I need to start getting ready to be called old LOL... Also what replaced the 2456S3, for I really liked the ALWAYS ON receptacle this unit has.

I can’t remember what the bugs in 5.0.9 were, and I doubt anyone else here can either, that version is a couple years old, and to be blunt—things were buggier back then.  Please upgrade to ISY firmware 5.3.2 which is very stable.

Caveat: If you have a 300 series z-wave board you must upgrade to 5.0.16C instead.  If you have a z-wave board it’s likely a 300 series board based on the ages of the firmware that you’re randomly loading.  UDI does have special pricing to upgrade the z-wave board.

I have no Z-Wave board, and based on what I am reading, most of my modules seem to be dated.. That said upgrading from 5.0.9 to 5.3.2 should be fairly straight forward or will there be some surprises I better be prepared for ?? Have a couple of scenes programed, and outside of the above issue everything seems to be solid...

Thanks

5.0.9 to 5.3.2 will be fairly straight forward.
