Hello,

I have had an isy for 8-9 years and recently upgraded to the latest isy with z-wave functionality.  I did this because the insteon fanlinc devices were failing, out of 5 ceiling fans where fanlincs were installed, 3 out of 5 failed.  This was a big problem because since the fanlinc needed to be installed underneath the ceiling fan canopy, that requires getting up on a ladder... oh and 2 fans are on 14 ft ceilings, and another on a 12 ft ceiling.  Because of the height, I had an electrician install these, and i am expecting that it would cost 2x as much now... so I am tackling it myself. 

I decided it would be better to have a wall switch fan controller and researched z-wave, which then prompted me to invest in a new isy.

So i got the first ceiling fan rewired and installed the GE Enbrighten fan controller which replaced a keypadlinc.  I had no problem adding it to my isy... but i am finding little to no information regarding how to program this anywhere, and not much info on how to program it in the isy.

When I programmed the fanlinc, i had a separate scene for high, med, low, and off where I associated the buttons on a keypadlinc to be either 100% on or 0% on depending on which mode each key represented.

I did not do any renaming of this switch yet, but can anyone tell me what:

ZW 002 Basic Scene Ctl 2 and 3 represent and what you do with them?

ZW 002 Multilevel Switch, Multilevel Switch 2, and Multilevel Switch 3 represent and how you use them?

ZW 002 Scene Button 1 and 2... I am assuming this represents the up and down position on the paddle. Is 1 on the top and 2 on the bottom? or is it reversed?

Do i create a separate scene for high, medium, low, and off like i had to do with the fanlinc and keypadlinc combination? For instance, Living rm fan high, Living rm fan med, Living rm fan low, Living rm fan off.

Also, i have read in some places that other brands of z-wave fan controllers have 4 speeds for the fan. Has anyone had any experience with this same GE Enbrighten fan controller (purchased july 2021)?

Insteon and zwave is like comparing apples to oranges. The only thing similar is that they're fruit (in this case automation protocols) what it takes to program insteon is not the same as it is for zwave. 

I don't use that device so I can't give you any details on it. I've seen a couple of people try to use it on here but they weren't too happy with it for multiple reasons

If memory serves correct, they had to set dimmer values for the different speeds. Some people on other forums (as well as this one) complained that the status wouldn't update but that could be for an older version. 

If no one chimes in and Ge's manual doesn't provide anything, you'll probably have to mess around with it to see what different things do. @asbril may have some information for you as he uses a lot of zwave products. If you have to be the trailblazer here, I'd manually control the switch to see what the Isy shows. What happens when you hit the button and the fan is low. Your second tap to make it medium, third tap to turn on high, etc. 

I suspect you'll need variables and programs to capture those taps in order for the isy to keep proper status of the fan speed when controlled manually. You'll also probably need programs in order to have the ISY control the device the way you would like. Good luck and let us know how it turns out

I can give you a partial answer and tell you what I did myself. In fact some of my 4 wave fan control switches are  several years old and not Zwave Plus.

I am also not sure that my setup is the best and maybe I can learn something from what others may post here.

In my case I determined that low  speed is 33%, mid speed 67% and max (of course) 100 %.  I created programs whereby any speed I select between 1 and 33 % goes to 33; any speed between 34 and 67 goes to 67 %; and any speed above 67% goes to 100%.  This may not even be necessary, but optically in my Administrative Console any selection will show the right speed. Furthermore, in Google Home (and most likely Alexa as well) I can just instruct the fans to go low, medium or high.

Manual control works, as @lilyoyo1says, like a dimmer, which indeed is not optimum because you may press too long or not long enough. A switch that gives a click for each speed or with good visual (light) display, would be great.

I have no problems here as my fan control switches properly report status to my ISY, even the older non Plus switches. This may be because of my extensive Zwave mesh network.

@asbril, most of my currently installed insteon devices are linked to Alexa to be operated with voice commands. What I am aiming for with these fan controllers, is voice control whether it is through Google or Alexa in the future. I would like to understand the different "additional devices" that were installed for the fan controller 

I have a total of 6 fans in the house where I plan to install one of these Ge Enbrighten fan controllers. What I am gathering from the previous replies is that a separate "program" in the programs tab would be created for each fan speed as well as off, and to not use the standard "create scene"... am I correct in this assumption?

Taking this assumption further, I would then need a separate program for each fan in the house for each speed, (by either copying the program for the first fan into the other fans, or "calling" a separate fan speed program?

@asbril... in your programs for your fan control, do you only use the "multilevel switch" and not "multilevel switch 2 (3)" or do you use any of the "basic scene control 2 (3) or "scene button 1 (2)"? On your devices, how do they show up in the isy? I realize that you said you have older devices, but there still may be some similarities.

(1) I have responded to your private message with example of "speed" programs.

(2) As I said before, my 4 fan control switches have been in place for a long time and none may be Zwave Plus, so I just use the basic switch. I have not looked (yet) at what a newer Zwave Plus fan control switch would let me do different.

Not everything that shows up in the console is used by your device. That's why I said to test the device and see what changes. 

Zwave as a protocol supports different command classes and device type. Mfg. will program their devices based off the parameters for a device type. That way, when added to a controller, the controller knows whether it's a dimmer, relay, thermostat etc. That's the extra information that you are seeing. It has nothing to do with the specific device you are using. 

What the mfg. decides to implement is on them and whether or not they decide to take advantage of what (and how) that device type is capable of. Had Ge decided to take full advantage of the device type, then all the extra stuff would come into play and you would have a more detailed manual for it.

You should post them here just in case someone else falls victim to this device....oops I meant; decides to use this device. 

oh I hear ya... what is irritating is that Jasco seems to make all these different manufacturers devices, and I cant find any programming info or explanation for the different "devices" that were added to the ISY on either Jasco's site or GE's site.  I do plan on posting what I do figure out.

They make simple devices without slot of options which is why it's like that. They aren't trying to do anything fancy like fibaro or aeotech which also shows in their price point.
