Hi. Looking to see if someone can shed some light on this for me.

I tried to display the network info for a zwave device - the event viewer tells me that the zwave module version doesn't support the network info request.  When I go to display the zwave version info I see that the Library and Zwave version lines are blank and the Bootloader version is 0.00

I have the ISY994i/IR Pro v.4.6.2  UI v.4.9.0with the newer zwave module (no LED protruding from case).

Product:

ISY994i/IR PRO (1110)

-OpenADR (21010)

-Networking Module (21040)

-Elk Security System (21090)

-Z-Wave (21100)

Any one have any ideas how to solve?

Thanks!

The 4.9.0 firmware DOES NOT support the newer 500 series Zwave dongle.

You'll have to update the ISY firmware to 5.3.4. Be sure to read the update instructions as you may have to manually update some of your programs and scenes after the firmware update.  Your login password will revert to the default and your email configuration may have to be re-entered. Best to take a screenshot of your ISY configuration before the upgrade.

Thanks, Techman.  Maybe I don't have the 500 series?  The module came with the unit and it doesn't have a protruding LED (I think that means it's a 500?) .  If it is a 500, it came from UDI with 4.6 installed.  Also, last time I checked the version of the module, it was being displayed. With noting: my zwave devices are working.

Thanks again.

CORRECTION:

The unit did NOT come with the module installed. I confused it with a ZW+ Pro I have at my vacation home.

For  my I/IR Pro in my primary residence...  I installed the zwave module in 2018 and followed the instructions at the time. The zwave has been working. I just installed a second zwave thermostat and it has occasional issues.  That's why I'm trying to see the network info.

Sorry for the confusion.

Now for the question: since it's been running on 4.6.2 with zwave functioning, and in the past it did show the version info, do I still need to upgrade?

More info.... this is from the installation instructions of that module:

Requirements & Installation

  • ISY-994 Series with firmware version 4.1.1 or above (Help | About)
  • Z-Wave Module - 21100 (Help | About). If you do not have the Z-Wave Module, please do make sure you have firmware 4.1.1 installed first and then use Admin Console | Help | Purchase Modules ($1.00) to have it purchased/activated

Techman's answer is still the correct answer. Make sure you read the entire upgrade page to ensure its done properly.

If your Zwave was working with 4.6.2 then you have the older 300 series Zwave dongle. It's possible that your Zwave dongle failed being that its version info doesn't display.

Try removing power from the ISY then let it reboot and if that doesn't help then you should probably do the upgrade. The 500 series zwave dongle has better specs than the older 300 series and the newer dongle and ISY firmware are now Zwave certified. You'll probably have a much more robust zwave network after the update. The current ISY firmware also has numerous enhancements and bug fixes over the older 4.x.x firmware

Thanks Techman. I did power cycle it. - no change.

I'm going to try the firmware upgrade on my ZW+ (5.0.15A) at my vacation home first. My vacation home is much smaller and much less complex so I'll use at a training ground of sorts.  Once I understand the details of that upgrade and am successful there, I'll get the new dongle and do the upgrade on my primary residence.

Sound like a good plan to you?

Thanks again!

Sounds good to me. The firmware upgrade from 5.0.15 to 5.3.4 should be easy with little intervention.

Be sure to read the following notes, click on the link below before upgrading your 4.6.2 firmware

Hi Techman,  I just read the doc on the link.  It shows how to ID a 300 vs 500 and the photo showing not LED protruding is exactly what I have.  Does that unequivocally mean that I have the 500 board?

The 500 series board will not work with the 4.x.x ISY firmware. Is there anyway you can check your invoice when you bought the zwave board to see what exactly you bought.

I finally found it (was looking for a paper trail for a couple hours).  I ordered it from Orchestrated Home on 8/14/16.

Z-wave Radio Add-on Board for ISY-994i (994iZW-Kit)

Does that help?

More info... I checked the ISY-994i ZW+ PRO I have at my vacation house - under the Help>>About menu it shows the Zwave module as "Z-Wave (21100).  Exactly the same as what the 994i/IR Pro I have at my primary residence shows.  Would that plus the fact that there is no protruding LED say that they are both 500 Series Modules?

The 300 series Zwave board has an LED protruding out of the rear of the ISY next to the "Port A" jack. The 500 series does not have an LED.

If you added a Zwave board after your initial purchase of the ISY you'll need to have UDI activate it.

Assuming that you have the 500 series board and the 4.x.x firmware your Zwave wouldn't work.

If you now update your firmware you will probably lose your entire Zwave configuration as you most likely won't be able to do a Zwave backup / restore per the upgrade instructions.

If you click on Zwave | Zwave version you should see this if you have a 500 series board

Hi Techman,

You can see from the photo below that there is no LED protruding.  I also included screenshot of the Z-Wave Version.  So does this mean that I definitely have the 500 series?  And if it does, am I just lucky that the z-wave devices are being seen by and working with 4.6.2 and I should upgrade to 5.3?

Thanks again for your assist!

With your current setup did you ever have, or do you have, any working Zwave  devices?

There appears to be a blue led behind where the knockout is for the LED.

I'm not sure exactly how Zwave would react if you had the 500 dongle with the 4.xx firmware. I think the only person who could answer that would be someone from UDI.

thanks, Techman.  The blue glow is from the front panel LED. And my zwave devices are working with the ISY fine.

Can you tell me how open a case with UDI?

As always, I appreciate your assist

I will.  Thank you!

It appears that you have the 500 series board and just need to follow the ISY firmware upgrade instructions in my earlier post.
