RGhia Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 (edited) I just built a new house that is LOADED with Insteon switches, keypads, outlets, leak detectors, lamp modules, motion sensors, etc etc etc. I've used these devices (starting with X10) for 35 years but I'm not an expert - just a "gadget gramma" who loves this stuff and somehow manages to make most things work the way I want. I use the isy994iR/Pro with the PLM. Many people have reported frequent PLM failures. Mine has been fine so far (in this new house and also for 10 years in a previous house), but I expect that won't last forever. Does anyone know of a good, reliable source of info and guidance for people in our current situation? Edited June 2, 2022 by RGhia make more specific
oskrypuch Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 (edited) Here is a pretty good place for that. Do some searches on 2413 or PLM, and all kinds of threads will pop up. There may be a PLM Pro in the future from UDI, but that hinges on SH closing procedures. If your PLM is older than v2.4 (certainly v2.3), then it is more at risk. But, the current PLM is repairable, there are a number of DYI cheatsheets, but also some contractors that do that as well. Aside from the power line modem, of course no other Insteon devices are likely to be available for replacement/extension in your network. Some are migrating to Z-Wave using the Polisy device (the "new" ISY994), for a mixed setup, keeping the old running fine, using Z-Wave for new stuff. Welcome, and dig in! * Orest Edited June 2, 2022 by oskrypuch 1
Brian H Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 If it is the older power line only 2412S PLM. They have a longer life span than the 2413S dual band PLM. There is a very long thread here on what we have seen and how some have rebuilt theirs with better powers supply capacitors. Made for switching power supplies. https://forum.universal-devices.com/topic/13866-repair-of-2413s-plm-when-the-power-supply-fails/ 1
MrBill Posted June 2, 2022 Posted June 2, 2022 If your not a DIY soldering person, there is also a guy on ebay that repairs PLM's. Just type Insteon PLM repair in the ebay search box. 1
