Device type wrong for Insteon Keypad after upgrade from 4.9.0 to 5.3.4

I recently upgraded firmware on my ISY 994i from version 4.9.0 to 5.34. Upgrade went fine and most of the devices (including Insteon motion sensors) are working fine. Very simple upgrade process! Thanks!!

The only issue I found that device type for couple of Insteon KPLs is wrong. ISY is reporting that the device type for both KPLs is "(2486D) KeypadLinc Dimmer 6 Buttons v.39". However, these are 8-button KPLs.

Now, this is causing problem in creating new programs or updated existing programs. For example, while checking status of a key, the only possible values are "on" or "off" and not like "50%".

What is the least painful way to reconfigure these KPLs? I would like to avoid/minimize reprogram everything again.

Thanks!

Were they originally 6 button kpls with an 8 button faceplate?

Does your UI match your firmware? Are you using the launcher from the 5.3.4 page?

Thanks for your response.

These KPLs were installed more than 8 years ago! At least one of them was installed by a contractor. I am not sure if there were 6-button or 8-button, originally. But, they have been working fine as 8-button KPLs before the upgrade.

I am using "ISY994 Administrator Console" and both firmware and UI are at version 5.3.4 (as per the "About" pop-up).

These were most likely 6 button KPLs that were converted to 8 button. Try doing a restore device on the KPL which may correct your issue.

If that doesn't work then do the following to reconfigure it to a 8 button KLP,  then do a restore device.

1. Gently pull the set button out as far is it will go

2. Wait 10 seconds

3. While simultaneously holding the On/Off (upper left-most) button and the H (bottom right-most) button, carefully push the set button back in, flush with the trim frame

4. Continue holding the On/Off (upper left-most) button and the H (bottom right-most) button until the keypad beeps

Keypad is now in 8 button mode

Techman, Thanks for the info.

KPLs are already in 8-button mode. Each of the key can be turned on/off individually.

About restoring the device - where is the info about device type is stored? If this info is also coming from the ISY database then will that make a change?

Thanks!

When you do a restore device it rewrites the links in the KPL with the data links stored in the ISY,

I restored one KPL. No change. It still says that the device type is 6-button KPL.

Any other idea? If not, I think I will need to:

  1. Delete the device
  2. Add it as a "New Insteon Device" - using a pre-defined device type (and not used "Auto Discover")
  3. Re-program/configure everything.

Please let me know if there is a better idea to recover from this situation.

Thanks!

If, after you delete it and add it back, it still shows as a 6 button KPL then you'll need to follow my previous suggestion but then you'll also have to delete and reinstall it again.
