What would I loose if I migrated now from an ISY994 to a Polisy?

I thinking about future proofing my setup. It seems that I should be able to do most if not all what I can do today with my ISY994 (+ PLM 2413S) now also on the Polisy.  My setup is pretty straight forward: some 50 or so all Insteon devices and a few programs, some Alexa control.

What would I still be missing with the maturity stage Polisy now has reached?

Follow up question: what modem should I be looking for to get to work with the Polisy: PLM-USB 2413U or Portable USB adapter 2448A7?

Thanks!

Probably whatever you can find.  2448A7 holds half as many links as 2413U/S, so if you have a lot links in your current setup, you might want to go for 2413x.  Both USB and serial 2413s will work with Polisy.

Regarding first question it may depend on what features you are using.  Direct ELK support I believe is missing from Polisy, but there is a nodeserver you can use (not sure what the current state of it is).  Also direct IR support is missing, hopefully someone makes a nodeserver for that.

This will be a little hard since there is no IR port on Polisy.

If there were an IR port on Polisy you wouldn’t need a node server. There are plenty of IR devices like global cache that you could use to get IR to the Polisy using a node server.

While a nodeserver would help, its not the same as the built in IR that the ISY has and depends on what a person is trying to accomplish. Itach devices can actually be added to the ISY pretty easily now without a nodeserver. The hard part is the initial setup and getting them to talk to whatever you want it to.

I used to use them with the command fusion app back before most electronics became easily connected.

Maybe GC was a bad example. I use iTach & NRs for IR transmit now. What is needed is IR receive which is what you lose with the ISY IR port. Don’t recall offhand if the ITachs did receive, but think you will need node server with some networked IR device for that. There has already been some talk about creating one with some devices discussed, but I don’t recall which ones. If similar to the Harmony NS (which allows detection of remote control commands) it should work just fine replacing the ISY IR port.

@waffles ,  in answer to your original question, if all you use is Insteon,  a few programs and some Alexa commands then you shouldn't have any trouble moving right into ISY-Polisy right now.

The migration set up seems to be working perfectly, and the portal migration for Alexa seems to work perfectly as well.  I have a similar set up as you only with a bunch of different note servers on polyglot and node link and I had very little problem switching over.

Just remember to  back up, back up, back up!   There's no guarantee in life, but with the tools that UDI  provides it made it a  pretty smooth transition.

Thanks All, for the quick and helpful comments! What a great community!

I don't use IR with the ISY, so I should be good to migrate.

From @gzahar's comment it sounds like PLM-USB 2413U or Portable USB adapter 2448A7 performing are equally reliable.

Sorry for the dumb question, how can I see how many links I have?

This is it, correct?  So in my case it's 532.

You should run the PLM link count when the ISY is not busy, the link count could vary somewhat due to ISY activity

532 is the current number of links stored in your PLM

Thanks @Techman, not sure I completely follow. I'd like to know how close I am with my current setup to the max. supported number of links of e.g. Insteon's 'wireless USB adapter' 2448a7, which is a 1000 links.  So with my 532 give or take I should have a sound cushion, since I am using only half of what's possible, correct?

That's correct.

@waffles The import thing to consider with link counts is that ANY Insteon traffic during the link count will throw the link count off.  That includes not only any switch being operated but if you have wireless devices such as motion detectors, door sensors, leak sensors etc even the Heartbeat if received during the link count will distort the count.   So if you can do link counts when no one is home, disable all programs during the link count and make certain wireless devices are quiet... no motion if you have motions etc.    After you get a link count do it again... if it's not the same then there was insteon traffic (perhaps a wireless device heartbeat) during the count.  Rinse and Repeat link counts until you have the same number more than once.

A quick way to disable all programs is to click "My programs" (or whatever your top level program folder is named) and add a folder condition that will never be true....  I usually use "If cTrue = cFalse" where interger variables $cTrue is always one and $cFalse is always 0, but any condition can be added to My Programs folder that won't be true.  This will Prevent any program from possibly doing something while your link counting... be sure to remove the folder condition when you're done.

Quick update: I got my Polisy and the 2448A7 yesterday. Initially the migration seem to go smoothly until I ran into major issues: several of keypads are no longer recognized by the Polisy setup. It seems to work a little better when I connect the serial PLM, rather than the USB dongle. Even after several attempt with factory resets, restore ISY, restore modem, restore devices it is still BAD.

For the migration to the Polisy I used a backup that I made right from my ISY994, running v.5.3.4.
Polisy is running v.5.3.0, which I believe is the latest for it. I had done all the Polisy f/w updates before I started the migration.

Has anyone faced similar problems and/or would have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Somewhere along the lines I also lost the Portal access for the Polisy and I am waiting to hear back from UDI.

In the meantime I have reverted back to my 994/2413S.

Again, any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

For me my keypads are working fine. I changed from serial to usb plm so had to do a restore of the plm. Also I have found along the way that some devices were not responding so well. In each case a restore of the device solved the issue. As I am now using this time to refactor my scenes and programs a bit I am just restoring devices room by room as I touch them. Overall I can say everything is working well including my z-wave move.

Thanks @sjenkins . This is helpful. When I completed the restore back to the old setup (994/PLM-S) last night, all seemed to have gone OK - all devices seemingly got properly recognized in the Admin Console (, other than some battery powered leaks sensors that I will need to wake up separately.)
However, I have since noticed that some of the scenes are not working properly, e.g. missing device responses, even though the Admin Console shows no errors. There must be something else going on.

All was working great with the old set up before I started the migration. I am not quite sure how best to proceed from here....

BTW, I saw your location in the profile. Seems like we are neighbors :-)

I am confused about the max number of links on the various PLMs... Elsewhere in the forums the 2413s is reported to have a maximum of 992 links, which seems precise and based on knowledge (Search 992).   So does the 2448a7 have order of magnitude 1000 link capacity,  equal to the 2413s?  If half of 992, then @waffles may have too many links to fit into the 2448a7?   You see my confusion...

According to Insteon:

@gzaharabove said "2448A7 holds half as many links as 2413U/S, so if you have a lot links in your current setup, you might want to go for 2413x. "   I've seen this said elsewhere too. Smartlabs at one point said the 2413s/u could store 2000 links, but this seems to have been false.  So maybe they have the same link memory capacity after all?

Just to be clear.  I was only quoting the info in the data sheet.  I do not know if they are correct.
