Polisy ISY Admin Console Desktop Shortcut

For my 994i ISY I had this note to create a desktop shortcut for the ISY. Usually whenever a new version of ISY was installed I'd have to recreate this shortcut as the Java cache would always get deleted.

Admin Console desktop shortcut

Open this link and click the Install Admin Console (Internet) link.

http://<ISY IP>/WEB/udajax.htm#/config/&tmpl=options

Doing this would result in this icon on my desktop that would start the Admin console.

I tried to do this for the Polisy ISY using the above link with Polisy's IP address, but it didn't work. I get a "refused to connect" error in the browser window. Will something like this work for the Polisy ISY?

If you use the launcher you can do that

As @lilyoyo1 points out, you should install the ISY launcher.

clear your java cache, including installed Applications and Applets. then click this link: https://isy.universal-devices.com/start.jnlp download the file and install it.  The first time it runs it will install an icon on your desktop: image.png.9c833a87cf4b8b2dd72f1165b972350c.png

The good news is that with launcher you shouldn't have to go thru all the java steps in the future, part of it's design is to always start the correct version of the admin console.

Yes, I have the launcher and it will open the Polisy ISY Admin console.

The technique I'm using with the 994i opened the Admin Console directly without having to start the launcher first. It actually would run the launcher and the Admin console together, both windows would be opened on the desktop.

I just realized that I need to use port 8080 for local request to Polisy, so this will launch udajax.htm on Polisy. Not sure yet if the Admin console works from this page.

The Launcher doesn't have a window, just an icon.  Are you confusing ISY Finder and ISY Launcher?   they are two different things.

Well... the desktop icon is called "ISY Launcher" but the window that opens is titled "ISY Finder". So, with that, my shortcut technique launches 2 windows, the ISY finder and Admin console. BTW.. this is not my invention, I learned it years ago in the forum most likely.

So when i follow your link it opens image.png.1e6c2b949b3e2eb5894fef3342bacab5.png in a browser window.  It doesn't open the admin console.

ISY Finder's behavior is different when there are multiple rows in the ISY finder window.   If there is only one ISY, or one choice listed, ISY Finder assumes and open the admin console. (at least if the single row is a 994... i don't know if the same assumption is made for IoP)  However if there are multiple rows in ISY Finder, Finder stops and waits for the users choice.

Again, ISY Launcher is not the same thing as ISY Finder, it seems however that its a common misconception that the two terms can be used interchangeably.

Thanks Mr. Bill...  Yes, the link opens that browser window, but you have to go another step further. Clicking on the "Install Admin Console (Internet)" link would then download admin.jnlp file. Running that file opens up a ISY Finder window and an Admin Console window and a prompt to login. BUT, the ISY Finder window is only showing one line, the 994i ISY.

Suffice it to say, this procedure no longer works as it did before when there was just one ISY 994i. No big deal, using the ISY Launcher shortcut is fine going forward into the Polisy universe.

That's a lot more steps than just clicking the ISY Launcher icon on your desktop.

Sounds like steps someone else we know would take. ?

Sorry guys, I guess I wasn't clear. You only do all that once. After you successfully go through it you end up with a new shortcut that launches the Admin console directly. You then use that shortcut going forward. I included an image of that in my original post. I've been launching the Admin Console for years that way. Surprised you weren't aware of it.

It's not that we didn't know. Just more efficient ways of getting the console in addition to that being an outdated way of accessing the admin console

Like how? I'd like to learn about it.

What we've been saying all along. The fact is, when you upgrade, all of your links are there. Download both at the same time and you're ready to go. With your way, you have additional steps. Not hard steps but additional nonetheless.

In addition, since you haven't been using the launcher, you're still having to clear java as well as missing easily accessing polisy.

For IoP you can use:

http://<IoP IP:port>/admin.jnlp

This will download the admin console to your computer.

You can then just run that file directly w/o going through the launcher/finder.  (goes straight to login screen)

This use to work for ISY, but no longer works on the latest releases.

Remember that you will need to redo this when a new version of the IoP firmware/admin console is released.  Which is probably why they want people using the Launcher instead.

That's what we discussed 2 weeks ago when the thread started. Launching the admin console is the old/worse way of doing things

Only when there's only 1 ISY on the local network, it stops at ISY Finder for multiple ISYs.

With with 994 v5.3.4, which did you mean?

Many MAC users have better luck with the admin console approach.  Most windows users have no problem with launcher.

I have one 994 and one IoP.  Not sure if that qualifies as 1 ISY or not per your comment.

Here is my experience with that environment.

1) 994 on 5.0.16c.  Download admin.jnlp from IP addres of 994.

When you started admin.jnlp first time it created shortcut that allowed you to go straight to login screen w/o selecting anything from finder.  I think a blank finder window opened in background but still went straight to login prompt.

2) 994 on 5.3.4 (haven't used anything between that and 5.0.16c) did the same thing except it would only work the first time to get to login screen.  Any attempt after first login, would error out with no connection or something like that. Unless you cleared java cache and re-ran admin.jnlp to get a new shortcut.  Again would only work for first login attempt.  Obviously this is much more work than Launcher and selecting which ISY to login to.

3) IoP on 5.4.0 (I think earlier versions of IoP worked similar to 994 on 5.0.16c, but don't remember).

Download admin.jnlp from IP of IoP and saved admin.jnlp file.  Running this file does not create a separate shortcut but goes straight to IoP login screen (with empty finder window in background).  This is easier (in my opinion) than starting Launcher and then selecting which device to login to.
