Bloods in the water - Insteon Market Grab

As many UDI forum members know Smartlabs / Smarthome the maker of the Insteon protocol and hardware has shut down everything that has to do with Insteon.

Information from one of our long time and trusted forum members has also indicated the latest unreleased Nokia branded hardware and service has also been shelved.

Today, I received an advert from HomeSeer indicating their controller and Insteon plug-in.

It goes without saying there are opportunities for many other companies to capitalize on this moment of easing the pain for existing HUB owners to find a alternative controller while increasing their own user base and sales.

Good luck to those going with HomeSeer, Home Assistant, or what I consider the premier home automation controller which is the ISY-994 Series Controller / Polisy Pro.

All of us look forward to assisting those to transition / migrate to the new platform.

does this still require a working insteon PLM?

The Insteon Hub contains a PLM internally and some techniques are tapping into it.

Kinda old news as the Insteon Hub has been used as a PLM by HomeSeer plugin and Indigo for years.  I guess others are "just now" figuring this out.  Problem now with Insteon being dead is getting the docs and access to interface with the API.

Yep, all those users who paid for cloud service are cooked.  Thank you UDI for a "local" dependable solution.

Unfortunately companies don't share their protocols with users when they go belly up.  This should be law that they do.  Unfortunately it is too late to hack it.

Just my 2 cents..
