raymondjiii Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 I know many people have tried to get this item to link - I am still unsuccessful. I always end up with a: The following devices could not be added 2440 RemoteLinc v.00 - Cannot determine Insteon Engine Is this a lost cause for my unit or do I just need to keep trying like others have done? I have tried holding it close to the PLM as well as 40 feet away. (LED does blink when I hold DIM and BRIGHT) at the same time. I do see some LED activity on the PLM when it's held closely to it. I read that this take a lot of bytes to transfer over the air but the entire house is filled with dualband devices so I would think, perhaps in correctly, that I have enough air space to get this done. Any ideas? Thank you -Ray
mjrush Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 The last time I linked my 2440 v0.92 it was a real pain. I took it outside and it finally linked. I moved everything to IoP except the switches controlled by the 2440. I'm not looking forward to moving them.
raymondjiii Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 What is "IoP" ? (I don't know that one ?) I'm curious how far outside you needed to go? I was going to try turn off all computer "stuff" after work ends and see if that helps in any way. i.e. any interference caused by the computer equipment possibly causing the problem. I really like the look and feel of this unit. I hope I can get it working.

raymondjiii Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 I tried going outside - no luck. This unit is a Rev 1.0 which probably doesn't help.
mjrush Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 I wish I knew the secret. When mine programmed, it was around 30 feet from the PLM and 25 feet from a dual band switch with a block wall in between.
Brian H Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 On mine I had to get far enough away from the Dual Band PLM to do anything with it. Like put it into the linking mode near a Dual Band device on the other end of the house away from the PLM. So all the signaling had to go through that device and the PLM did not receive it by RF and used the power lines.
raymondjiii Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 I tried that...I put the ISY994i in linking mode (did not put the RemoteLinc in discovery mode) I went downstairs to the basement. Pressed the DIM and BRIGHT buttons on the RemoteLinc. Held it near a 2477S and the 2477S flashed some red LED's at the bottom of the LED pipe. Not surprised, it didn't link.
raymondjiii Posted May 2, 2022 Author Posted May 2, 2022 Event log say: Failed to add device, reason 3
mjrush Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 I tried linking mine by putting it close to a dual band plug in dimmer that was at the other end of the house from the PLM and that didn't work. For me, it had to be away from any Insteon RF device. It took a lot of trying different locations.

raymondjiii Posted May 19, 2022 Author Posted May 19, 2022 I think I figured this out - almost. If you have the old SignalLinc installed you need to disable it before trying to link these old RemoteLinc units. I mounted my SignalLinc inside the circuit panel so I wasn't 100% sure which two breakers it was on but I had the general area (200A breaker.) With SignalLinc turned off, I take an extension cord as far outside as I can and plug in a new (or old) appliance module that has the RF capability (must already be linked.) After you manually enter the address for the RemoteLinc (RemoteLinc is already in linking mode) it finds it immediately but there is a lot of "writing" to the device as seen from the console and I still have the green icon indicating pending writes back to the device. So not out of the woods just yet but way better than before. And the SIgnalLinc is at least one issue.
