Ok - now that Insteon has shut down, is it possible for UD to create a 994 that includes Insteon (for those of us who still have a hundred devices), and both z-wave and Zigbee?

UD do not own the Insteon IP to do that. Yet (maybe).

The ISY will support Insteon and either Z-wave or Zigbee, however you'll need a PLM and currently none are available.

The newest hardware controller, and successor to the ISY994, is the Polisy. Currently the Polisy supports Insteon and Z-wave 700. It also requires a PLM for Insteon. Not sure if and/or when the Polisy will support Zigbee

Sort of... in the application layer it supports zigbee for use with Utility meters, not the lighting layer, or home automation layer.   You're correct tho that Z-wave and Zigbee are currently one or the other on the 994 hardware.

I suspect that at some point we'll see a PG3 node server that supports zigbee via conbee or some other USB stick that plugs in to policy.

i put up a post somewhere on the forum that pretty much asked the same question. i don't have any zigbee devices or anything to run them on, but if i'm behind U.D, my eyes are over the horizon watching Home Assistant and others , and more importantly recognizing that Insteon ditched, so does that mean more zig devices get sold. A stumper today, but boy would l look at amazon and do a big "what if" we redesigned  994 or new name machine that has a usb port for a dual band usb stick. i would jump in 2 seconds to my wifes bank account and buy one.
