New polisy setup

Is it possible to set up a new Polisy (using ISY on Polisy) and keep my old ISY in place?

I just purchased a Polisy and plan on using IOP as my main system. I don’t want to attempt to do a migration and would rather start fresh. I would like to get the new system up and running before switching everything over. My current setup works and I don’t want to have to trouble shoot it trying to get it working right if it does not work properly. I also don’t like how some of my current setup is in my ISY and want to start from scratch with all new naming conventions, programing, etc.

Yes, this is possible.

Depends.  Are you moving the current PLM over? or do you have another PLM to use with polisy?

I've been running a Polisy IoP in tandem with my existing ISY994i for about 6 months. Each has it's own PLM and they are both always plugged in and active. As long as you don't duplicate links I don't foresee any issues. The problem is if you have both ISY's trying to control the same device. Bad mojo.

If controlling Z-wave devices, devices only "include" with one controller. You would have to start from scratch anyway with Z-wave migration to the Polisy from the ISY994i by excluding all the devices from the ISY994i then including them with the Polisy running IOP. You cannot control the same Z-wave device simultaneously with both controllers.

Make a backup or two of your ISY 994i before you do anything. This can get you back to where you were before the Polisy if you ever need to.

You can pre-load Polisy with the Insteon link tables from the ISY994i using a migration process (described in detail elsewhere on this forum). However, you are either going to control an Insteon device from one hub or the other, not both.

If you have 2 PLMs then you could move a few devices at a time off the ISY (meaning delete them from the ISY's link tables) to the Polisy, test, then move some more. If you have only 1 PLM then you're going to be restoring the PLM each time you swap controllers. Back up each controller each time you make a change that works so you have a known starting point for the next change.

Thank you.

I only have one PLM but Insteon really is only in a couple of my rooms, the rest is z-wave. I figured once I got the z-wave all set up I could tackle the PLM move and set up. (or replace it with z-wave stuff and try and sell off the insteon)

My worry with running the 2 z-wave networks is keeping both networks strong enough to run both at the same time while I move devices from one system to another. but once I get things going i should be able to move fairly quickly finishing other rooms. This would be a great time to have a map of what my z-wave network looks like so I can strategically remove devices from my old mesh.

Even if you could see your network map, it would change as you removed devices.

I'd start with insteon first if that's your smallest setup. Then go with zwave from closest to farthest devices with a focus on least used devices. If you have a dense network, you probably won't impact things as much as you think as long as you leave enough devices within range of your controllers for both systems
