Dead isy994i moving on to Polisy

Hi,

My isy994i died and I'm considering moving over to a polisy because it is the only option available to purchase. I primarily use it to control insteon light switches and motion detectors via a PLM. Everything else is managed by Home Assistant.

Couple of questions:

  1. Should I start over from scratch and readd all of my insteon light switches to a clean install?
  2. Polyglot 2 or 3, if I'm starting from scratch?
  3. If I don't start over from scratch, can I import a backup from my isy994i?
  4. What else should I be thinking about?

Thanks

1 - No need with Insteon, just restore a recent backup.

2 - Polyglot 3, if the required node servers are available.  I'm running both at the moment, and will migrate to PG3 as additional node servers become available.

3 - Yes, just import a backup.

4 - The serial PLM cable you're using from your ISY won't work with Polisy.  You need the original cable that shipped with your PLM.  A USB PLM will work with Polisy if you have one.  There are some small differences in the way the ISY software handles things on Polisy, and the ISY software is still under development.  It generally works just fine, however.

Thanks. The PLM cable I'm using looks like an ethernet cable, is that the serial cable you mentioned?

Is this what I need to purchase?

@BMersereau

It's highly unusual for an ISY994 to fail, what could fail is the power supply or the SD card, both of which can easily be replaced.

What exactly are you experiencing with the ISY?

I too would suspect the power supply.

There are many posts here with failing power supply. I have had a few myself. UDI presently sells a 12 Volt supply as the ISY994i has a fairly wide power specification.
