Polisy or ISY??

I'll try not to get too long on this.  But I need some clarification on three points.  I have both the ISY and Polisy.   The ISY runs the majority of my home automation.  I'm using the Polisy for a few minor functions, alarm interface, Roku, and weather data, that's about it.  My questions are:

-- Is the Polisy a replacement for the ISY?  I'm seeing posts where users are migrating all of their automation functions to the Polisy as their primary home automation platform.  I thought Polisy was designed to work in partnership with the ISY.  I look around the dashboard of Polisy, I can't even locate anything to add Insteon like devices, let alone how to configuring them.

-- Second, I saw a notification that some of the node servers were down and users could impacted.  It was my understanding everything ran natively on Polisy like the ISY, so users wouldn't be impacted by cloud failures, such as the recent Insteon hub users that were left high and dry when Smarthome went belly up.

-- Lastly I was able to pick up a USB based PLM in the event my serial unit crashes (It's nuts what people are paying for used serial PLM's on Ebay).  The only way to go that route would be through the Polisy, via one of its USB ports, yes?  If this is true, I suppose I'd have obtain a USB driver/amp because my polisy and ISY are at one end of the house and the PLM is on a dedicated outlet next to the service panel connected via dedicated network run. Probably going to break the 30 meter USB threshold.

Any feedback/clarification or links to articles would be much appreciated.

Thank you...

1) Polisy IS a replacement for the ISY994.  On the Polisy, the ISY is a software package that runs on the Polisy hardware.  To use the ISY on Polisy (IoP), then point your launcher at the IP address for your Polisy (http://polisy_ip_address:8080/desc)

2) Polyglot versions 2 and 3 run on your Polisy.  Polyglot cloud is down, so there are a few node servers that are cloud only that are affected.  The majority are not, and will run locally on your Polisy.

3) You can use the serial PLM that you are currently using with your ISY994 - provided you have the appropriate cable - or you can use the USB PLM.  I have set up two IoP instances, one with the serial PLM and the other with the USB PLM.  Both work just fine.  See this thread:

to add to @Bumbershoot

Depending on how old your Polisy is, it may need some updates before it can run ISY on Polisy (IoP).

If you know how to ssh to polisy, do that, login as admin, default password is admin, change it with the command passwd.

Type uname -a

if the version you see is below 13 (like 11 or 12) then go here: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Polisy:User_Guide#Polisy_OS_Versions_Below_13

That's an abbreviated set of instructions, if you need more detail just let us know.  There's a couple other threads we can link with more detail.

Thanks for the info guys, but I'm not tracking how SSH'g into Polisy will enable me to update the system with the ISY OS.  Thought that would be an action from the dashboard???  Anyway.... I tried all options as noted above for the ISY launcher to recognize Polisy.  Nothing worked.  Back to my original question, once I SSH into Polisy, what needs to happen to get the ISY OS on Polisy??? As I'm understanding things ..... ISY launcher needs the recognize Polisy before anything else can be accomplished.  That should be the first hurdle to get over????   In the meantime I'll order a the Zooz Z-Wave 700 series USB Stick so I'll be ready to migrate my Z-wave devices.  Here's a snapshot of my Polisy dashboard for reference

Once you have followed the instructions above for updating your Polisy, the next step is to SSH ISY on your Polisy. Without IoP installed, there is nothing for the ISY Launcher to find.

ssh to policy and type: uname -a

if you see 11 or 12 in the results then follow these instructions: https://wiki.universal-devices.com/index.php?title=Polisy:User_Guide#Polisy_OS_Versions_Below_13

--

the ISY software was not originally included in Polisy, only very recent shipped units will have it.

Let us know what uname -a says if you have any problems.

Edit to add: Yes the first reboot in the instructions is required, otherwise the second file won't exist.
