Rex Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Running version 5.3.0 with the ZWave Plus module and a bunch of other working Z-Wave devices. I am trying to add a First Alert Smoke and CO detector model ZCOMBO. When I go through the device include procedure (by using the "Add a Z-Wave device on the ISY Z-Wave menu and holding the test button on the detector down when sliding battery tray in), I see the following in my ISY Log: Sun 05/29/2022 01:42:58 PM : Listening for Z-Wave devices to add to the network Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:03 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 2 Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:04 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 3 Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:05 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 5 Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:05 PM : Adding Z-Wave devices stopped Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:06 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 6 Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:06 PM : Device 22 of type 4.7.1 included into Z-Wave network Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:12 PM : [ZWAVE-ADD-NODE] Cannot add primary node for 22.0 Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:12 PM : [ZWAVE-ADD-NODE] Device 22.0 not added Sun 05/29/2022 01:43:12 PM : Add Node failed: Cannot create primary node for new device I can then remove the device from the network and see: Sun 05/29/2022 02:01:51 PM : Listening for Z-Wave devices to remove from the network Sun 05/29/2022 02:02:02 PM : Removing Z-Wave devices stopped Sun 05/29/2022 02:02:03 PM : Device 22 excluded from Z-Wave network If I try to remove the device again I get (showing that the device did get removed): Sun 05/29/2022 02:02:20 PM : Listening for Z-Wave devices to remove from the network Sun 05/29/2022 02:02:29 PM : Removing Z-Wave devices stopped So it appears that the device can communicate with my network and ISY, but for some reason no nodes get added. Should this work? Any suggestions? I know that Z-Wave is not intended for life critical applications, but an email alert to a smoke, CO, or low battery condition is still useful if I don't happen to be home. 1
Techman Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 After pressing the set button did you release it before you tried to include it into the ISY? It will stay in the linking mode for 30 seconds once released. You also might want to update your ISY firmware to the latest version 5.3.4, which has bug fixes.
tlightne Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 I am running 5.4.4 now but was running 5.4.3 and I have First Alert Zwave smoke detector. It included with no problems. So it should work.
Rex Posted May 29, 2022 Author Posted May 29, 2022 Updated to 5.3.4. Same results. (I assume 5.3.4 is the most current for ISY 994i. The 5.4 stuff is for Polisy right?) If it helps, here is the log at more detail on a second attempt to add: Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:15 PM : Listening for Z-Wave devices to add to the network Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 2 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 3 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 5 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : [ZWAVE-TX-NR ] [0105004A85FDC8] REQ ZW_ADD_NODE_TO_NETWORK Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : Adding Z-Wave devices stopped Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030020DC] REQ MEMORY_GET_ID Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030056AA] REQ ZW_GET_SUC_NODE_ID Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:16 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030002FE] REQ SERIAL_API_GET_INIT_DATA Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030005F9] REQ ZW_GET_CONTROLLER_CAPABILITIES Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : [ZWAVE-TX-NR ] [0105004A850035] REQ ZW_ADD_NODE_TO_NETWORK Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 6 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030056AA] REQ ZW_GET_SUC_NODE_ID Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : Device 23 of type 4.7.1 included into Z-Wave network Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : [ZWAVE-TX 23.0] [5E/01] CC=0x5E cmd=0x01 [] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE To=0x17 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : [ZWAVE-RX 23.0] [5E/02] CC=0x5E cmd=0x02 [0106000C010C01] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE From=0x17 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:17 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [0107005117FFFFEB55] REQ ZW_ASSIGN_SUC_RETURN_ROUTE Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:22 PM : [ZWAVE-TX 23.0] [72/04] CC=0x72 cmd=0x04 [] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE To=0x17 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:22 PM : [ZWAVE-RX 23.0] [72/05] CC=0x72 cmd=0x05 [013800010003] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE From=0x17 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:23 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [0104004117AD] REQ ZW_GET_NODE_PROTOCOL_INFO Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:23 PM : [ZWAVE-ADD-NODE] Cannot add primary node for 23.0 Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:23 PM : [ZWAVE-ADD-NODE] Device 23.0 not added Sun 05/29/2022 03:40:23 PM : Add Node failed: Cannot create primary node for new device
Techman Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 @Rex Try moving the smoke detector closer, within 10 feet, to your ISY, then do an exclude device. Factory reset the detector, then try another Include. Note: the 5.4.4 firmware mentioned in the post above by @tlightne is only for the Polisy and will not work on the ISY
tlightne Posted May 29, 2022 Posted May 29, 2022 Sorry did not intend to muddy of the waters. When I was on ISY it was 5.3.4 and had the Zwave smoke detector working no issues.
Rex Posted May 29, 2022 Author Posted May 29, 2022 @TechmanThanks. All work so far has been about 10 feet from the ISY. After a factory reset (power on with button for 10 secs and confirming reset beep), I get the basically the same: Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:41 PM : Listening for Z-Wave devices to add to the network Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:46 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 2 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:46 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 3 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:47 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 5 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:48 PM : [ZWAVE-TX-NR ] [0105004A85FFCA] REQ ZW_ADD_NODE_TO_NETWORK Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:48 PM : Adding Z-Wave devices stopped Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:48 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030020DC] REQ MEMORY_GET_ID Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:48 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030056AA] REQ ZW_GET_SUC_NODE_ID Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:48 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030002FE] REQ SERIAL_API_GET_INIT_DATA Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:48 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030005F9] REQ ZW_GET_CONTROLLER_CAPABILITIES Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : [ZWAVE-TX-NR ] [0105004A850035] REQ ZW_ADD_NODE_TO_NETWORK Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : Z-Wave device detected, retrieving info 6 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [01030056AA] REQ ZW_GET_SUC_NODE_ID Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : Device 24 of type 4.7.1 included into Z-Wave network Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : [ZWAVE-TX 24.0] [5E/01] CC=0x5E cmd=0x01 [] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE To=0x18 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : [ZWAVE-RX 24.0] [5E/02] CC=0x5E cmd=0x02 [0106000C010C01] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE From=0x18 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:49 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [0107005118ECECED5C] REQ ZW_ASSIGN_SUC_RETURN_ROUTE Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:54 PM : [ZWAVE-TX 24.0] [72/04] CC=0x72 cmd=0x04 [] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE To=0x18 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:54 PM : [ZWAVE-RX 24.0] [72/05] CC=0x72 cmd=0x05 [013800010003] ACK,AUTO,EXPLORE From=0x18 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:54 PM : [ZWAVE-TX ] [0104004118A2] REQ ZW_GET_NODE_PROTOCOL_INFO Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:54 PM : [ZWAVE-ADD-NODE] Cannot add primary node for 24.0 Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:54 PM : [ZWAVE-ADD-NODE] Device 24.0 not added Sun 05/29/2022 04:12:54 PM : Add Node failed: Cannot create primary node for new device And if I try to add it again, I get similar, but with an additional sync request line. Techman Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Is your ISY firmware and UI the same version? If not, then clear your java cache including applications and download a new version of the ISY launcher. Try excluding it again, then reboot the ISY and try including it one more time, if you're still unsuccessful then I would open a support ticket with UDI. Not sure if the issue is with the device or the ISY. Being that @tlightne has the device working on his ISY it's not a compatibility issue.
Javi Posted May 30, 2022 Posted May 30, 2022 Hi @Rex, Some zwave devices need to be within a couple of feet of the ISY, literally right next to each other, during initial linking. This appears to be the case with many devices which support zwave secure inclusion. Once the devices are next to each other, exclude then include.
Rex Posted May 30, 2022 Author Posted May 30, 2022 (edited) @TechmanFirmware and UI versions are the same. @JaviTried at 6 inches instead of 6 feet. Same results. Log looks the same as above, but with a new Id (now 25 instead of 24). Thanks Edited May 30, 2022 by Rex
