Has it always been your switch?  it looks like some of the buttons have yellow color changing squares under them.

The door open light in this picture is using a yellow square.

@MrBill Always mine. I don't remember it being like that when I installed it either.

I had to replace the light fixture it was attached to. It was flickering, the connections must have gone bad.

I wonder have wondered if there was a sort or something that could have caused it to mess with the switch ?‍♂️?‍♂️

Is the switch a 2486D in the 8 button mode? It used snap on key tops and you could put printed paper labels in it. They may have aged and changed color.

It also has a button press sequence to set the button  illumination levels. If it is the early one with snap on key covers.

Variable Backlight Brightness
KeypadLinc Dimmer’s button backlighting can be set to two different brightness levels.
• If six key button plate is installed, simultaneously press the “A” and “D” buttons to toggle between backlight levels.
• If eight key button plate is installed, simultaneously press the “C” and “F” buttons to toggle between backlight levels
