How to migrate to ZMatter Z-Wave with your current Z-Wave network on a non-ZMatter Z-Wave dongle (e.g. Zooz)

To migrate, you remove the Zooz dongle and plug in the ZMatter Z-Wave dongle.  If you have a ZMatter Z-Wave board then you would power down Polisy, add it, then power on again.  Next, use (File | Restore ISY) to restore the "migration" backup you just created (in step 6).  When your Polisy/eisy restarts it automatically migrates and creates the new nodes, does the device interviews etc.

If you don't actually change your Z-Wave network by adding/removing devices after migration, you can always back out the migration by unplugging the ZMatter Z-Wave dongle / board and plugging in the Zooz dongle and restoring the regular backup (from step 4).

@Chris Jahn,

Everything up to this point was very clear. At this point, if you are migrating from Polisy to eisy, do you plug the ZMatter dongle directly in to eisy, enable Zwave, save, and then restore the "migration" backup from Polisy to eisy?

Thanks for getting this to work.

I asked the same 2 questions in different part of the forum, but here it may be more appropriate.

I plan to soon initiate my migration from my Polisy with Zooz to my eisy with ZMatter and follow the above instructions but need clarification :

(1)  I currently have some test ZWave devices and a few node servers on my eisy. Do I need to do a factory reset before starting the above steps ?

(2) Other than migrating the licenses of my node servers (which apparently can be done in ISY Portal),  do I install the node servers on eisy BEFORE or AFTER the migration ?

I opened a ticket but this is the situation in case there are suggestions.

I failed the migration from Polisy-Zooz to eisy-ZMatter I believe that I exactly followed these steps :

1) Make sure 5.5.3 is installed

2) Leave your Zooz dongle connected and ZMatter Z-Wave dongle not connected

3) Create a backup of your Polisy/eisy (File | Backup ISY)

4) Create a backup of the Polisy/eisy you are migrating to (if different than in step 3)

5) Go to configuration tab in Admin Console and select "Migrate to ZMatter ZWave"

6) Choose the option that allows you to create a "migration" backup (first option)

7) Once you have your "migration" backup you are ready to migrate

All the nodes and programs did migrate but all the Zwave nodes failed to connect. I checked and the ZMatter dongle was working.

Subsequently I restored the Polisy backup and tried a new migration, but this time from Polis-Zooz to Polisy-ZMatter but that migration also failed.

I now restored the latest Polisy-Zooz backup and the system is working as before.

I also did a factory reset of the ZMatter dongle on eisy and restored the latest backup. This worked though I will need to re-include the 2 Zwave devices.

HOWEVER, I can no longer log in to eisy PG3. It gives me a an auth error.

For Zwave, have you tried X-ray with Interview?

I think others have reported that it connected their devices.

What is the status of your eisy in the Portal, have you included your eisy and approved it?

I am very pleased that, with great help from UD Support,  I was able to migrate from Zooz on Polisy to ZMatter on eisy. Some comments :

  • Largely most of my Zwave and Kasa devices migrated without issues.
  • 1 Aeotec plugin switch did not, but I suspect that this is because security required the pin code. I did a factory default of the switch and then included with the pin code.
  • 1 wall dimmer switch acts weirdly, going up and down. I will do an exclude and include.
  • All battery devices initially were marked as disabled but enabled by themselves when activated.
  • The Lifx Node Server does not work.
  • I had added my Polisy node servers to PG3 on eisy in the same slots, using trial subscriptions. When I did the ISY Portal migration of the Node Server licenses it seems to have rejected that transfer of the trial node servers. I will asks UD Support for help with that migration.
  • It appears that I need to make adjustments in Alexa as (some ?) voice commands no longer work. However a ISY program generated command to make Alexa to say something does work.
  • The migration created a large number of new nodes for my +/- 80 Zwave devices. I have not had time to look at this in detail, but I think that some of these nodes can be used for ZWave Scenes.
  • After trying to migrate myself, I was no longer able to login to PG 3 (eisy) on none of my  3 of my computers and using different browsers.  Michel helped me to resolve this but then later same problem again. After Chris helped with migration, this issue seems to have been resolved.
  • Home Assistant :  Before the migration, I had been using eisy separately with two Zwave devices.  Both my Polisy and eisy were working fine with HA, but after the migration the eisy no longer does. @shbatm is trying to help me.

Even though the migration was a bit frustrating and time consuming, and needed valuable help from UD (world's best support), the result is  satisfying. I am keeping my Polisy in place (unplugged) for a few days for just in case and will put in a closet for standby. I look forward to make use of current and future eisy enhancements.

@asbrili just saw your message regarding your migration results after a help session with the UDI.

Do you understand what was different from the recommended migration steps that you initially performed and what was different in the help session?

Another way to ask the question… do you think updates to the recommended migration steps will result from your help session and that we should wait?

When clicking on Migration in Polisy AC Configuration, I selected option 2 while I should have selected option 1

Chris told me that he may delete option 2 so as to avoid confusion. I also believe that new instructions may be published soon.

I have yet to update my Polisy to 5.5.3… it is still on 5.4.5.  So, to clarify this is the migration click on the Polisy to create the migration backup file that will be used to restore on the EISY?

yes but you DO need 5.5.3

Thanks for the reminder… I was aware of that,  but since I have had issues with previous migration tries and still fight issues with configuring WiFI on the EISY (I am already working with UD on this) I was hesitant to change a system that is fully working.

The one important fact you should know that if migration fails, then you can still  use your Polisy with your latest backup. HOWEVER, you can not have eisy and Polisy powered on at the same time.

I believe that the migration option in the Polisy AC only appears with 5.5.3  . This being said my firmware upgrade to 5.5.3 was easy speezy by just clicking on upgrade packages.

Mine showed the migration option also on 5.5.2

I did this on my lake house Polisy, staying on Polisy for now and added internal Zmatter board.  After starting the restore I brought up AC and saw all zwave devices were disabled, then it started popping up the "Performing -Wave Device Interview" for each device and they were coming back enabled.   Some devices take a very long time and the display will say "[Device 11] Waiting on interview complete (timeout in 400)"  then the timeout number will drop to 399, then go back to 400, and ever minute our so it will show a device message.  But it's been stuck on this same device for over 20 minutes.  I submitted a ticket.

My question is, can I leave the internal ZMatter board installed, then plug back in the Zooz dongle, reboot and restore my previous backup?  Or do I need to pull out the ZMatter board?

I left for a while and when I can back it completed, but Z-Wave X-Ray All devices shows:

Devices list:
  1 Interview Not done
  5 Interview done
  6 Interview Not done
  7 Interview done
  8 Interview Not done
  9 Interview done
 10 Interview done
 11 Interview Not done

Take a look at Chris's last paragraph in the fist post of the link I provided below. I think it explains this.

Thanks missed that, guess I'll pull it back down tomorrow and pull it out if I don't hear back from support.

Very happy to share that my ZMatter-on-eisy is largely back with superb help from the UD team.

This is pending :

  • Some battery sensors are not working yet, but I am hopeful that I will resolve this tomorrow, though the Zooz Zen 34 give me trouble.
  • Alexa : I am not sure that getting selected ZY devices on Alexa has worked but I have trouble removing all ZW devices from Alexa, and my ISY generated routines are not working anymore.
  • Lifx Node Server is not working after migration
  • Home Assistant and eisy (after migration) don't like each other's company. @shbatm has identified the issue and is working on a solution on HA's end while @Chris Jahn is looking at the eisy side.

Once I have resolved the motion sensor issue, then I will focus on getting the supposedly better Zwave Scenes so that hopefully lights turn ON faster when motion is detected. I have seen posts on how to achieve that but I may need more guidance.
