Palmer marketing Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 howdy. ok - i've had a isy 994 for several years. We live on 8 acres and have two buildings on the property. Getting a reliable zwave signal to all of my devices had been challenging, but after some tweaks, it has been pretty reliable. Now on to Eisy. All pretty straightforward, right? hmm, not for me. Insteon (with their kit), does not look like a big deal. However, i am confused about the zwave matter module . this is also pretty straight forward, but in the description is an interesting snipit. I'll copy: Enhanced Range Start enjoying the enhanced range afforded by high caliber external antennas (on the sides) in conjunction with SiLab’s 700 series Z-Wave and Zigbee/Matter radios. Ok - so do i assume: 1/this usb zwave module comes with (1) antenna for zwave? Also, if you have not done so, take a peak at silabs web site. If you do any reading over there, one inquisitive smart home dude might say, hey, will this matter usb module eventually be able to be upgraded to SiLabs 800series? or better yet to SiLabs zwave LR (they are giving ranges in the description of this product that would allow this controller, with no range extenders, to reach the far corners of my 8 acre property). So, hoping someone out there knows more about the future of this module than i do. thanks for weighing in.

So, hoping someone out there knows more about the future of this module than i do. thanks for weighing in. 800 series is a hardware difference from 700 series so the module itself will not be able to upgrade the module itself. UDI would release a new module that is 800 series compatible. Regardless, for you to be able to get the benefits of 800 series, you would need to upgrade your devices to 800 series as well. Being that 700 series devices are really just coming into their own ( and still without full saturation), I wouldnt worry about 800 series. It'll be some years before that happens so its not something I would wait for. The sad part is, zwave 900 series will be out by that time....the dance never ends.

So, hoping someone out there knows more about the future of this module than i do. thanks for weighing in. The current Matter board comes with two antennas, one for wave and one for zigbee/matter. They use SMA adapters, so you could take them off and run coax to the top of your roof to an external antenna if you really want. That said, I just switched over to the EISY and the Matter board and I'm running a handful of wave devices. I am blown away at the range and reliability of them without any external antenna or repeaters. One big consideration for you is that you don't get the benefit of the 700 series power/range hoping through your network if you have 500 series devices. So, I am trying to build a 700 series only device network and it is tough, because there are not as many 700 series devices yet -- although there are most of what you'd need. I don't think there are any 800 series devices (I'm probably wrong), so 800 series doesn't matter at this point (see what I did there ).

For anyone else that wants to try and understand what is happening in the zwave device arena and if the product that you are buying is in "current technology" (whatever that really means), go to www.z-wavealliance.org This site will give you the ability to look up a product by manufacturer and see if it is 700 compatiible . From what i can see, looks like most all of the z-wave plus devices are 700 series. i only have insteon and zwave devices, but if this "attachment" comes with a zigbee antenna and software, it's sorta game on for some additional devices. One thing i know for sure, can you imagine what the posts will be on this and other sites 5 years from now? Think it's super important to continue to carry these blog sites forward to share info. and ideas.

The 2nd post under the 700 series page (tips and tricks) has a link for the site you mentioned with a link that goes to all of the current 700 series devices.
