alphapenguin Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 I am finally setting up my polisy pro to use the ISY/IoX. I had to buy a new DB9 to Rj45 cable from Amazon. I keep getting I have reset the system a few times and no go. I know my PLM works as it functions with the ISY994i OIKWAN DB9 to RJ45 Console Cable,Compatible with Cisco Router Switch CAB-CONSOLE-RJ45 https://a.co/d/fpAV4QL It seems to be a standard premade cable so I am thinking the cable is bad, the DB9 port is bad or the pinouts are correct? I bought a StarTech.com DB9 to RJ45 Modular Adapter - F/F - Serial adapter - DB-9 (F) to RJ-45 (F) - GC98FF, Black https://a.co/d/98YBVT5 And will come today. Hopefully it works. Alex

It's might be standard for console but not necessarily for PLM. There is a post that someone used to convert console USB adapter by re-crimping RJ45 connector. Search for it. There are only 3 wires I think. You should be able to crimp this cable if you know how. 2
Brian H Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 The PLM only uses three wires and the pin out is unique. So you have to use the correct three wires in the DB9 to RJ45 serial adapter for the connections. 1

elvisimprsntr Posted February 25, 2023 Posted February 25, 2023 (edited) 1. Purchase a COTS DB9 to RJ45 cable.https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08V539JMQ 2. Cut off the existing RJ45 and split the molded jacket 3. Use a Multi-Meter to determine which color wires are connected to which DB9 pins 4. Cut back un-used wires and crimp on new RJ45 connector. I thought it was red. it wasnt working, so I asked my 9 year old daughter, and she told me it was brown. Anyway, it works now. THanks Alex

As there are other signals on the PLM RJ45 jack that can possible connected to other things and effect the operation. Like the unused TTL level In and out signals. Insulate and don't connect to anything. 1

There are other signals on the PLM RJ45 pins that carry voltage and TTL level signals which may permanently damage the PLM if shorted out.
