cwhite951 Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 My system just stopped working yesterday after close to 10 years of pretty much flawless operation. I can call up the ISY portal, ISY website and they all seem fine. I have rebooted all systems (ISY, router, computer, modem) just to try everything. The ISY lights up and seems to get commands but mostly sits there with the power light on. On my iPhone app I get "network error - error code 401 authentication needed" I did all the programming and set up almost 10 years ago and most of the details escape me, not looking forward to recreating a lot of automation stuff. Help?
Techman Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Can you access your ISY via the admin console? Have you tried removing power from the ISY to reboot it? Is the green power light on your PLM on?

I can access it but it does not connect with any devices Yes, rebooted it several times The green light is on on my PLM - based on other comments I would suspect it - its been running for 10 years! Any way to easily test the PLM? Thanks for your quick response
cwhite951 Posted March 14, 2023 Author Posted March 14, 2023 I tried to reset the PLM from the Admin Console and got this message - TCP client DNS failure [my.isy.io]

Resetting PLM should not trigger the message you received. I would suggest checking the error log. As an aside, sign in to portal and see if ISY is on line. 1
Techman Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 @cwhite951 In the admin console, click on TOOLS | DIAGNOSTICS | PLM STATUS, does it show the PLM as connected? Then click on SYSTEM STATUS, and post a screen shot of the status window. It's possible that your SD card has failed and may need to be replaced. The DNS failure might be due to a network issue between the ISY and your router. Check your ethernet cable. Don't try resetting your PLM as it might further complicate your troubleshooting.

cwhite951 Posted March 14, 2023 Author Posted March 14, 2023 results from sending a scene command from my iphone
Techman Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 It's possible that your PLM has failed. Unplug it for about 5 minutes, Remove power from the ISY. Power up the PLM, wait about 15 seconds, and then power up the ISY. When you power up the ISY do you get flashing leds on the front panel?
cwhite951 Posted March 14, 2023 Author Posted March 14, 2023 OK, it all came back to life. does that still point to flakey PLM? everybody else seems to think they fail regulatory and mine is 10 years old. Appreciate the help, I was really into this stuff 10 years ago and my system has been very good. It was long enough ago that I couldn't remember the details!
Techman Posted March 14, 2023 Posted March 14, 2023 Make a current backup of the ISY, you'll need this if you have to replace your PLM. It's possible that the power supply in the PLM is failing, the older PLMs have a habit of failing after a few years. 10 years on the same PLM is unusual. Insteon is supposed to have new PLMs in stock this month. There are also PLM repair options, from Insteon, and a vendor on ebay. F.Y.I., the ISY has been discontinued and replaced with the EISY. Support for the ISY will no longer be available from UD in a few months.

I will have to look at the new stuff, 10 years is a very long time in the automation world. as long as i can port over the current programming I wouldn't have a problem updating things. Every thing is working well except my phone app (Mobilinc Pro) - it can turn things on and off but the scenes are hit and miss.
