New feature: UD Communications & System notifications

Like others have mentioned, I am now seeing many on-line and off-line notifications per day, screen shot posted. This does not look normal to me.. I am running both an ISY for the IR capability alongside the Polisy but haven’t noticed any system “issues” per se.

I only had only one of those messages overnight.  I looked at my router log at the time of the offline/online notice and see the following:  dnsmasq[7479]: Maximum number of concurrent DNS queries reached

I'm not at all sure what that means or what is causing it, but it's the only occurrence of that message in my log.

Interesting as yours have a few minutes between the offline & online.

Mine (which only happen on my 994, not POLISY or EISY), go offline then online in the same minute.  The time delay should solve mine but yours have significant time between and even a number of offlines in a row.

Hello everyone,

There is now a delay used before sending online/offline notifications.

  • When getting offline, there is now a delay of 60 seconds before a notification is sent. It it comes back online within that delay, no notification will be sent.
  • When getting online, there is now a delay of 5 seconds before the notification is sent. If it goes offline within that delay, no notification is sent.

In addition, the notifications now includes the alias.

Let me know if you encounter any issues.

Thanks for your feedback!

The bigger question: why are these occurring? Is this an issue or not?

ISY/Polisy/eisy opens a permanent socket connection to Portal. Whenever that socket connection drop, ISY will automatically attempt to reconnect.

There are a number of reasons why a socket can drop:

  • ISY Reboot
  • Router reboot
  • Bad Internet connectivity
  • ISP changing your IP address
  • Routers may also mess with connections
  • Portal maintenance.
  • etc.

So a reconnection once in a while is not really a problem.

However, if you see constant reconnections, it's a sign of a problem somewhere on ISY/Polisy/eisy, your network, or your internet connection.

Portal maintenances affecting connections are rare and announced on the forum. In the future, there will also be a UD communication (push notitication) which will let you know before a maintenance. FYI, not all portal maintenances have an effect. Only maintenance on specific servers handling inbound connections would impact the ISY-to-Portal connectivity.

If you see regular disconnect/reconnects, such as every hours or more frequent, I encourage you to open a ticket.

@bmercier   Woke up to a notification that my primary ISY was offline:

image.thumb.png.c23fcdbad10c432036c6951552133652.png

Logged in the the portal and it shows the green "Online" light.

Tested a portal connection, it works.

checked the ISY error log and found a related entry:

(Time Zone is CDT, no additional error log entries in the 6 hours since)

Included the -5012's and single -5013 before since they appear related.  Before what's pasted here nothing appears related.

(the Query All program doesn't run until 3:10 am, therefore the portal issue is unrelated to the Query All program running.)

Since the portal is working, shouldn't the last message be "...is now online"?

Thanks for the report. I analyzed the problem and just pushed a fix.

I had an offline occur about the same time EDT.  Did not save the offline message. I restarted the EISY by doing a power off and on due to not getting an immediate restart. Puzzled why it went offline.
