I accidentally deleted the desktop icon to my launcher so I downloaded the link again and now, the launcher opens and shows the correct info for my ISY994i but when I click on the line, whatever box I'm on highlights but the launcher doesn't open the ISY console.  I deleted everything out of Java but still no luck.  I downloaded the latest Java but no change.

what am I missing???

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the reply.  BTW, the Ubiquiti router continues to perform well.  Thanks for that!!

To answer your question, the "finder" finds my ISY but I never get the box with "Admin Console", etc.

Does that make sense?

Okay, deleted the (2) .state files.  No change

Deleted everything in Java, deleted the launcher.  Rebooted the machine and reinstalled the launcher.  No change...

Any other ideas?

Interestingly, BOTH my laptop and my desktop are doing the same thing.  The laptop is the one I accidentally deleted.  The desktop is a new install.

I can open the ISY fine with its IP address and it's functioning fine.  Since I can get to it fine with the IP address, I can't imagine there';s a problem with the device...

If it means anything, I tried to delete the ISY from the finder and I was going to try to add it back by the IP address but it won't let me delete it.  It's like the finder isn't responding.

I don't know, hopefully someone will have another thought, the only thing i can think of is kinda of nuclear...

  • uninstall java
  • poke around AppData and get rid of leftovers with folder names like sun, java etc
  • reinstall Java 8, update 361 from https://www.java.com

with that in mind I have no further suggestions.  To be honest I'm not sure what you mean first you say you can't get in then you say you can....

I note you're on version 4, do you have plans for your system, or it doing everything you want and need and have no plans to upgrade.  The ISY994 is discontinued, and won't be supported at all by UD in the future.  (there's an announcement somewhere that says when support drops)

Sorry if I confused you.  I can get to the ISY using its IP address and then if I click on Admin Console" I get the page that says "Java 2+ required".  If I use the finder, it opens the finder and shows the IP address but when I click on the line for the iSY, it only highlights the particular box I'm clicking in but never gives the the option box of how to connect ... local or cloud.

Is that better?

I have rebooted the ISY with no change.  Tried all the ideas in the article with no luck.  Then it occured to me... I have an OLD laptop with the ISY finder on it.  Fired it up and it worked fine ONCE.  Tried a second time and it's doing exactly the same thing.  I'm starting to wonder if I have an ISY problem.  I DO have a spare ISY but I've never replaced one before.  I'll bet it's not as simple as install it and load a backup....

Check the error lights on the front of the ISY. You can find the correct light state in the wiki.

If you can get in again, take a backup.

Also, try changing the power supply.

I just had a power supply failure a few days ago and it now has a new one.  All lights are normal.  I have a current backup so that's not a problem.  Gotta quit for today but thanks for the help.

Hmm, makes me wonder, I would suggest ruling it out by replacing it again.

I am having exactly the same problem that Steve reported on my Windows 10 PC, and came here looking for help.

Coincidentally, my problems started at about the same time that Steve reported he was having problems. Seems too coincidental for this to be some random occurrence, I'm wondering if the folks in Redmond pushed something out this afternoon that clobbered us...

Backstory:

I have a fairly large install with about 60 Insteon devices total, the oldest of which have been in service for about 10 years now. My PLM died a few months ago and it was my last spare, so my ISY was off the air until the folks at Insteon sent me a new one this week.

After the PLM replacement I poked around and discovered that quite a few of my switches had stale links in them (leftovers from the previous PLM). I sat down last night and again this morning and started cleaning those up. I left the house at around noon to run a few errands and when I got back, I couldn't open the Admin Console.

I've already tried all of the obvious, cleared the Java cache, rebooted the PLM, the ISY and the PC - but no luck. Even tried downloading and reinstalling the ISY finder. As Steve said, it finds my ISY OK, but it never gives me a popup from which to click and select Admin Console (see below)

I also seem to be able to reach it through its UDAjax web interface just fine, from both my Android phone and this same Windows 10 PC, so I don't think it's a firewall or Ethernet comms issue. And a few interior lights that are programmed to turn on in the late afternoon have already turned on as scheduled. So it seems to be alive and its programs seem to be running OK.

For the record, I'd posted a question about upgrading my ISY to version 5.x.x a few months ago (when I learned that the994i was being sunsetted - thanks to Mr. Bill for posting how to instructions). Unfortunately, my last PLM died just a few days afterward, and I never did get around to do the upgrade.

So once I cleaned up the links, I'd planned to do the upgrade, then grab myself a new EISY in the near future. But then THIS happened! Murphy never seems to give me a break! AND the EISY is out of stock!

I'll try a few more things - have a few laptops in the house that I may have connected to ISY in the past. I'll see if I have the same experience that Steve did (in once, then locked out).

I'll post any new findings here and stay tuned to see what others have found. Hopefully, one of us can come up with a solution soon. Thanks in advance for everyone else's insight and assistance...

It's interesting to note that you are both still using v4 firmware.

I wonder if something like a certificate expired.  or something happened with UD.

You might try downloading the admin console directly from the ISY and not using the launcher.  http://IP.OF.THE.ISY/admin.jnlp  save it to your downloads folder or desktop then double click it....   any change?

IP.OF.THE.ISY should be changed to the IP for the ISY that you see in your finder window.

I have been having exactly the same problem just started this afternoon. So I downloaded the console as MrBill suggested in his last post, and I was able to log into the console ONE TIME. When I closed the console and tried to reopen using the ISY Finder, it does see my ISY, but still won't show the dropdown menu when I click on my ISY. I tried to open the console again with the download I got from my ISY and now it won't run.

Based on the error message, it does look like some kind of a certificate problem.

For now I can't get to my console, but the ISY is operating fine in the background.....

Open a support ticket with UD and include the error message details.

You will need their assistance to clear this up
